I highly recommend the dock. I find I mostly have it docked. It props it up for a start!

Andrew, how did you get on trying to connect the TF to your telly?

timmmay: Get the 16GB without dock, and get a memory card with it.

My Mum asked me to choose her a new laptop, the cheaper the better. She's used to Windows, and isn't really a computer person. She just wants to do spreadsheets, email, and surf the web. I wonder if I should just suggest a Transformer with dock? Maybe a netbook? Any thoughts?

I'd probably go a windows netbook (easily under $500), as much as I hate to say it. The office apps on Android are still pretty lacking in my opinion so she might find herself struggling at times if shes used to windows at all.

Having said that why not give her a go on your TF and see how she goes. I think its mucho better device for the money!

Just remember whatever you get you will end up being Tech Support so use that as your guide!

I think the netbook idea's better for my Mum. It has windows, which she's used to. The only thing that's holding me back is most seem to only have 1GB of RAM... they must be horribly slow.

I'll start a netbook thread somewhere :)

Incredible but I've also been looking for a netbook for my mother, and am holding out until I see something with more than 1Gb of RAM. Seems to be almost a golden rule that if the screen is 10.1, it must have 1Gb of RAM. There are very few exceptions.
But yeah I would agree that a netbook is probably the way to go for her.

Yeah, very true. I think a netbook would get less questions.

Sony Vaio has 2Gb. I understand that the problem is the Windows Starter pack which is limited to 2Gb memory. All the Netwbooks are using that version of Windows presumably to save costs and that limits how much memory the netbook has.

Ah ok so the Acer Aspire 522 ($424 from PB Tech) and add another 1Gb of RAM. Sounds like a plan.

Also, remember that currently Skype doesn't have video functionality on Tegra 2 chipset devices... I was looking for a device for my girlfriends Grandma to use but Skype is a must so it looks like the Transformer is out.

Has anyone bought the cheap cover from dealextreme? Mine spends most of its time in the dock but it would be good to throw it in something when the kids have it. It is pretty expensive :-) but I am wondering if it is a waste of time. You get what you pay for sometimes!

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I havent bought one from them but the picture looks pretty much identical to one I got a friend of mine to pick up for on a recent trip to the states. I am pretty happy with the one I've got, its a good fit and being able to use the case as a stand really makes a difference. These days I probably spend about 1/2 the time with it in the case and 1/2 on the dock.
