You can root the old way but this will trip knox so if that is an issue then don't, as far as warranty it shouldn't be an issue here in NZ given we have the CGA.

I always flash my galaxy but haven't on this one only due to what Samsung pay may look like. Ping pong isn't any good now, as has been explained. There is Kingroot but it doesn't work on our phones and not sure it will either.

There isn't a lot of custom Roms on offer but I just want to root so i can be rid of the memory hogs so will eventually.

I really just want root for Tasker, secure settings, LMT launcher, and titanium backup. Oh and auto voice and greenify and Trigger. So quite a lot really. And that's without even considering a custom recovery. The world of Samsung is just different enough from HTC to push me out of my comfort zone. Hoping I don't regret getting the S6 over the M9. Great camera and display though.

Anyone able to tell me where on the Edge models the NFC sensor is? I am about to fit a magnet to the back of the phone for my car mount and need to know where to avoid since magnets apparently interfere with it.

So am I reading correctly that the best place to put the magnet would be just below the camera as the NFC is on the left hand bottom looking at the back of the phone?

It would appear that would be a good place to put it , I would say you could come down a bit from the camera as the battery takes up a fair bit of space in that area.

Anybody used Kingroot to root their S6? It seems to be a one stop shop without needing to connect to a PC. The downside send to be it installs its own superuser binary called kinguser. I would prefer supersu as I have used that in the past. The other option at the moment is to use Odin and CF-Autoroot. That's how I rooted the Note 8 I am writing this on. Anybody successfully achieved root on their S6 using this method?
Sorry bit of a Samsung noob, any help appreciated.
If nothing else, I want to get rid of the pop ups for media volume and turning mobile data off. I get the picture that Samsung don't want to be sued if someone has their music too loud, or has no data because they turned mobile data off. But surely if someone is capable of operating a flagship phone they should be allowed to turn these nuisance notifications off.

I had a look at this a while back and it doesn't support the 920I, I also tried ping pong but the exploit had been patched by Samsung so if your firmware is dated after Friday May 15th it won't work.

Rather frustrating as I'm not keen to trip just yet to put on a custom Rom.

Since selling my SM-G9250 Edge and getting an SM-G925F, I'm now getting an easy 8.5 hours of screen-on time with a 5.1.1 custom ROM and kernel, and performance is noticeably better, although it was hardly bad to gin with!

Well-worth forgoing Samsung Pay for IMO.

Bit the bullet and used CF Autoroot to root my S6. I just got sick of all the little extra things my rooted M7 could do that my shiny new S6 couldn't. I don't think I will use Samsung Pay so at the moment the benefit outweighs the loss.
However, the rooting exercise didn't go smoothly. I'm a novice when it comes to rooting Samsung devices using Odin, the only Samsung device I have done previously was my Note 8 and it went without a hitch.
Having read a multitude of threads I embarked on the process by downloading the file for my S6 (SM-G920I) from the CF Autoroot site. Unpacked it, started Odin, put the phone into download mode and installed the root. Odin reported success but the phone didn't reboot as expected (remained on blue download screen). Manually rebooting (as instructed by guides) left the phone stuck on the Samsung boot screen. After trying the whole process again with the same result I resorted to another internet search to get myself out of the poo. It turned up an XDA thread that described my problem exactly, the solution turned out to be not to use the file for the G920i but instead use the one for the G920T (T-Mobile version). That done via Odin and a manual reboot did the trick. Rooted, happy and a little wiser.

What ROMS are people using on their S6? Coming from Sweet Rom on my Note 4 which as great on battery and buttery smooth.

Give this a nudge - I used his ROMs/kernels on my S3, and they were great:

Note, it's an odexed ROM, so should be a bit smaller than most custom ROMs and should also boot faster when you flash it.

EDIT: I'm assuming you have an S6, not an Edge?
