I have had the same symbol up ever since I got my desire. I am using a brand new sim since I changed from prepay to contract when I got the phone. It doesn't seem to stop anything from working. Its always in the notifications as well but with no more explanation just the same symbol.

Seems there are a few with the same problem http://androidforums.com/htc-magic/6652-question-about-notifcation-icon.html but no-one has found a solution so far it seems. Does seem to be the SIM though at this stage.

That's what it looks like, but why do some people have the problem and not others? Are new SIM cards different perhaps? Mine is about 4 years old so not sure if it's different fro myour new one John, but as you know I haven't experienced this issue (touch wood)

Older SIM cards do not have STK (SIM toolkit)

Pretty sure mine has STK. Got a list with My Vodafone etc right? Don't do much with it.

That is STK will have a version number on the SIM as well like eg 2.4.6 or 3.1.4

Okay, just for you I checked and it's STKv2.4.0

Perhaps take your SIM out and give it a clean. ;-)

Doing it now but a dirty SIM only causes one way speech as advised by NealR (this is a joke)

Actually what we should have done was switch our SIM cards to see if that was the issue. Next time.

JellyWeb: Tried launcherpro too, looks great, but I do like my HTC widgets, so probably won't be rushing to install Froyo just yet....
do all the HTC widgets rely on Sense?? could you source them from somewhere and run them on unofficial Froyo on the Desire?? If so, and if launcherpro supported them then that's a good reason to switch.
But... do I have the time to do all this, or shall I just wait for the official 2.2 update!?
probably will wait!
I think the only think i'm really keen on in Froyo is the ability to access/stream my 130Gb music collection in the Music player!? is anyone using an app that already does that?? I think i've heard VLC player can do that?

...have you tried subsonic music streamer?.... free from android market
