O/C'd to 1056mhz on original build I just got 1849 on Quadrant, might have to try B136 if it will help it along a bit more, might crack 2000 lol

Isn't Swype jsut a 3rd party keyboard that is OEM installed on 2D X5's? That would explain the lack of support in B136 and would be easily rectified by re-installing the app?

I haven't had time to download the new B136 from huaweidevice.com, but I might give it a go at some point.

Re: Swype. I can't be sure, but I think you are right. There is defintely a Swype APK file in the cust_data --> 2Degrees --> nz --> apps folder when you access the device using the "violet screen" mode.
If you were to copy that file and then load it on manually after updating to the B136 ROM, surely that would work wouldn't it?
Anyone keen to try, and confirm?

If you can email me the Swype.apk file I'd be happy to give it a go.

Got it and it still works fine.  The question will be that since this is a licensed product which is only distributed through the handset makers (ie not for sale), whether a license is included with the B136 build.

So how does one go about creating a backup of the original ROM that came on the 2degrees purchased phone?
Is it even possible to do so?

The reason I say, is that I would like the ability to go back to how it was when I purchased the phone if I were to update to this new B136.
It seems that the B136 update is looking pretty good, but would still like to have the option of reverting back to how it was when I purchased it.

Will 2degrees be providing an "update.zip" file to download for this coming new update (B136??), or will it only be through an "over-the-air" update.

Don't worry, I think I just found what I was looking for.

When updating firmware, is it feasible to override build.prop values using the customer configuration?  (So as to avoid having to modify the base image itself.)  I would like to disable the ro.config.hw_remindwifitopdp setting, in order to remove the "Continuing internet access will lead to traffic. Continue?" message whenever leaving wifi coverage.

So I loaded on B136 yesterday, and so far I have been very please with it.
Like InspectorGadget mentioned, it seems to be a lot snappier, and scrolling/animations appear a lot more "fluid".
Definitely has Wifi tethering too.

Still can't wait for a CM7 port though. The X5 deserves it.
The guys over at XDA seem to be getting there, but I don't think it's quite there yet.

Well, I gave my X5 a bit of a tune up.  Judging by the threads this has been done before, but I:

1)  Installed z4root from Softpedia and temporarily rooted the phone:
http://handheld.softpedia.com/progDownload/z4root-Download-110178.html

2)  Installed Titanium backup and backed up the apps on the phone before un-installing the bloatware that came with it.  This included:

-  Alkido
-  HiSpace
-  Google Talk
-  Twitter etc

The net result is the phone is a bit quicker and I have a lot more free RAM available on it.

It's quick, painless and highly recommended.

I am now on B136 and still with swype keyboard, I thought the only people that lost swype were those that did not apply the OTA update?

There's been an OTA update from 2D?  Did it add WiFi hotspot?
