Definitely has not been dropped or over heated.
Did you try full OS factory reset to rule out software glitch? If the problem still there then you have a damaged camera sensor. Take it back and get it repaired.

I would talk to the place you bought it and inform them of your troubleshooting and see what they have to say, it looks like an internal issue with the camera what would probably be out of the average consumers league to fix.
The polish ROM I have has battery issues as suggested was possible. So wondering if there is an update for that?
I'm running the Polish ROM on my parallel imported S3 I picked up the other day.
I found the battery drained quite fast after the update, but found this setting made a huge difference (with moderate usage at 5pm I still have 80%). I noticed someone else mentioned it a few pages back but missed step 2. below (which I didn't realise you could do at first!)
1. Go to Settings > Wifi
2. Press the Settings button on the phone
3. Go to Advanced and change Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep -> Only when plugged in
This will make push notifications use mobile data rather than Wi-Fi data, but since they are all small (probably below 1kb) its not going to affect me, I don't receive many incoming viber/skype calls - and I have 3gb data from Voda :)
I had the same phenomena on my S2. It was a spec of dust on the inside of the lens. I tapped the lens until my pics were clear.

IntegerIsNumber: Now this is something new.. If you root Stock Samsung Jelly Bean then you won't be able to update your device or check for update.
Previously in ICS we can still get update even with Root.
Where you hear that? I'm still able to check.
Where? Well on XDA and on my device. The when you check you'll get a greeting from the OS "your device has been modified. There is no update available."
How would I know? I flashed my S3 a few times already and now I'm at the point where I'm unable to restore my Cwm backup :( arggg it is only 1.8GB data and it failed to restore. I'm stuck in boot logo lol.
Restoring a blank backup I made earlier and try again with ROM manager instead.
A clear message from Samsung, if you rooted your device then you ain't get the update ota.
Update: F yeah, after many hours of failure I finally able to restored my previous back up. Stupid CWM5.5. Use CWM 6.0.1.2 is able to restore file larger than 1.5GB.

I noticed that a few weeks ago and was told that's just what happens but I could have sworn my GB devices still let me get OTA. It's nice to know I wan't going bonkers as my S3 on JB gets exactly the same message as you once rooted.
