mrgsm021:

So what cases is everyone getting for their S22?

I mainly like to go with clear cases to showcase the color of the phone and just bought Spigen Ultra Hybrid which is on special at PB for the pending arrival of S22U, hopefully sometime next week but also looking at other options to rotate such as Ringke Fusion, UAG Plyo, Supcase, Nilkins just to name a few.

Where may you be getting your Plyo from? Couldn't find one locally and UAG told me they wouldn't deliver to NZ. Cheers.

Try Mobile Fun

These guys are based in UK but have a .co.nz website for NZ.

Shipping cost starts from $9.49.

I have ordered from them couple of times before (pre-Covid), took a few weeks to arrive.

Alternatively maybe from Amazon?

UAG is one of the options I am considering, may not go with it since UAG will for sure add bulk to what is already a large phone.

Currently rocking Ghostek Atomic Slim on my S20U among others, very premium finish with excellent protection but also adds bulk though, they also have Atomic Slim for S22U but won't go for it this time round.

Thanks. Phone came Thurs out of the blue so rocked down to PBTech and grabbed the Spigen Ultra Hybrid. Really like it.

I've purchased an Otterbox Defender Pro for S22U, 4x drop tested.
The wife chose Otterbox Symmetry which is clear and also 3x Drop tested.

Ordered directly from them and arrived within a week.

Not entirely happy with the Defender Pro as it adds a lot of bulk.
I've been burned before having dropped a week old glass back phone on a road, and ever since used UAG.

My S8 was in a UAG for five years, dropped on roads, dropped down a steel staircase, landed on concrete and nothing damaged for 5 years.

This time I chose Otterbox but also looking at the UAG Kevlar, purely because the Otterbox is humongous.
I do go to construction sites so I'd really like the protection, in addition to my clumsiness. If it wasn't for the UAG, my S8 wouldn't have lasted that long.

I'd never consider the likes of Otterbox or Lifeproof, they add way too much bulk for my liking, hence why I had a UAG on my S10 Plus I think

I just use the protective ones from Samsung. Good balance of protection and aesthetics for me.

Try xtreme skins vs dbrand.
Dbrand really sucks at customer service.

I was outside a shop in broad daylight and surprised how easy it was to see the S22U screen/icons to select the Covid tracer app. (compared to my old S8+)

I've had the complete opposite experience with DBrand customer service. They were amazing.

Thanks...

S22U 1750 nits.

S8+    515 nits.

Quite a difference in screen brightness.

How are people finding the camera? Particularly the shutter lag?

My wife’s S21 Ultra struggles to capture our ever-moving toddler whereas my 13 Pro Max does a better job. Would consider switching back to Android if Samsung could get rid of the shutter lag!

Just an FYI, apparently it is industry standard to measure max peak brightness using a 1% white window or 1% average pixel level (APL), this means 99% of the pixels are turned off, which for obvious reasons is not reflective of real world usage. AMOLEDs are unique in that the more pixels being lit the dimmer the screen becomes, or the fewer pixels lit the brighter it becomes. Below is the results from a 100% white window/APL, this is also not real world usage (Anandtech believes a more realistic measurement would be at around 80% APL) but it does highlight the drop off of brightness compared with the peak 1% brightness that marketing would have you believe.
