The the interface I still like it. Clean and smooth. I have little interest in customising though. But they should be adding a few somethings there for everyone. I think the next iPhone and iOS version will tell us where Tim Cook wishes to go. That is the big unknown

So 1pm EDT on 12 September makes it 5am on the 13th here? Don't think I'll bother setting my alarm. Should be good to check out about 8am after the breathless gushing has finished and some proper analysis is available. 21 September for US release, 12 October for tier 2 countries? Better start queuing:/

I'm of tomorrow, may watch it on Verge, twit.tv or Engadget.

Hard to see that there will be anything of note though. Screen likely to be 4.08", No NFC, A6x hopefully (dual CPU, quad GPU), maybe small camera/video hardware software gains, maybe bigger battery, LTE which is of no use here. I will get it as wife is getting my 4S, but I am probably more keen on iOS6, TBH

Expect new iPods. No ATV, No iPad Mini till a month or so.

I have a mild interest in Android, from a tech interest point of view. Thats pretty much it, as other than a tech interest it is not that relevant to me.  Good to see some Android users taking so much interest in going out of their way to comment on something that they dont like or use. Psychologicaly, that is actually a compliment.

I'd expect an announcement on a more compact ipad. Kindle has just announced it's new line-up, which includes a 10incher, and Kindle are the biggest threat in the tablet market (for apple ipad sales).

In a new iphone I imagine the BIG focus (from apple) will be on the changed form factor rather than iOS changes. They'll leave that fanfare for next year once they've done the myriad of minor tweeks (that don't happen  Wink ), that optimise the product into its LTE UberG iteration.

Product release dates will target Thanksgiving and Christmas. But specifically America
There's an election coming up there (between those dates) so they don't want to get 'lost' in that hyperbole. But neither do they want to get lost from the consumer concious

I'd bet on no iPad Mini announcement, but it will be soon though. As you mentioned, prime for Xmas sales. Thanksgiving is a bit too soon. My reasoning is that they can milk the hype though the iPhone 5/iOS6, iPod now, then go again soon. Sound marketing.

Maybe they will go hard on the new form factor, but its hardly new. Its still small compared to G2/3 and others, and if its taller rather than taller/wider/bezel thinning, then in landscae mode its unchanged, which adds nothing to landscape browsing. If it was slightly taller slightly wider, bezel thinned, camera up, home button slim and down, 4.5 is easily doable with little form factor increase, but that wont happen this year. If it was 4.5 that would be great, but no.

Incremental as usual, and I believe it will be less incremental than the 4S was to the 4. New size is a big thing for sure, I agree, but in reality, it isn't physically.

Just read the release info on engadget.

Yawn.

Must be the most leaky Apple launch yet. Everything except NFC (unless I didn't look close enough) seems to have been included. Maybe could have been called 4SL (L for long or LTE), but at least it's not called 'the new iphone'.

As said above, incremental improvement, but I guess we can't expect massive innovation each year. In reference to the OP, not really a holy war, more of a minor skirmish.

Most leaked for sure. Apart from what we saw as rumoured, pretty much everything hardware has had an update. Phone update, not bad. OS update not bad. Combo is not bad and a bit more.

Kinda silly how they claim it's the world's thinnest phone when Oppo has announced something 6.65 mm thin in the past. I find the language they use to be very tedious as well... "we know you're going to love it" "we think it's fantastic" and so on. Pity there wasn't a live stream (afaik)

You can twist it into a compliment if you choose.
Are kids who throw stones at a mentally impaired person really paying them a compliment??

Im pretty sure 99.9% of android users enjoy being able to plug a run of the mill micro usb cable into their phone, the other end into a computer and wa-hey drag and down file storage, copy music, films etc.

How about that for "It just works!"

iPhone is fighting a losing battle and the odds are stacked against it.

That being the case, I am sure you have better things to do than comment/argue on something that you dont use and dont like. After all, it isnt relevant to you in any way, but you seem to have a need.

Re the USB cable, yes I do take an extra step or two to copy anything I like, to or from my iDevices. Quicker and easier on Android? Yes it is.  Its still quick and easy for me as well, so therefore no real issue at all.

If we were to have a friendly discussion on the pros and cons of both, I would be more than happy for that, be interesting, and informative. But as you are biased 100% there is really no such point. I like Android, I happen to like iOS more, simple as that. I have balance, and manners.

As a person with a certain amount of expertise in psychology the Apple marketing technique is rather laughable.

Their whole angle is still clutching to the trendy, funky but 'so cash' image.

Their language at launches is all the same style and hype heavy almost indoctrination like.

Apple are smart, they have the money to employ the best of the marketing minds available but that will only get them so far.

How they succeed is more to do with their fanbase than their actual product.

My own sister is an Apple junkie, has 5+ different devices.

She glosses over or ignores their products shortcomings and almost nothing penetrates the façade of 'Apple is amazing'.

Android is starting to trump Apple in almost every area of the smartphone but even if the Galaxy S4 will have the ability to teleport you to any place you wish to go millions of Apple fans wont budge (or see the light).
