networkn: Murray I see you are selling your kit, you seemed pretty keen on it, just wondering did you find a deal breaker issue with it?

nm: I didn't realize there were two devices.

Yeah, selling the portable, which is still awesome, just that for now I have little use for a portable games platform given I rarely go out with 9mo twins at home.

No deal breaker issues with either device. Nvidia had some wrinkles in the production of the Shield Tablet, with tiny cracks appearing at the corner of some units, but they've sorted those. Wireless reception strength, at least on those early units isn't particularly strong, but that said I've not had any issues on that front personally.

Shield Tablet remains for me the best Android tablet available at any money, we'll see if it remains so after the Nexus 9 (it likely will for me, given SD slot and my preference for the smaller form factor).

An interesting discussion

I'm in the US next week and am tempted to buy one of these, have seen them advertised at $299 at bestbuy.  My son needs some sort of tablet for school next year and this seems a very good specification and price.  But, not sure if it's over-optimised for gaming, and I don't want him getting even more game-obsessed

Other options are the LG G-pad, Galaxy Tab pro, or Nexus 7.  Or, wait for the Nexus 9 but I have no idea how much that will cost

I am hopefully in the US in November and might see if I can see one there, though to be fair I have the kindle HDX and consider it fantastic except for no play store which can be a little frustrating. However as someone with a significant investment in the Amazon Eco system I can't imagine a better device!

Hey guys. Just wondering for those who have had this tablet for quite some time now - how are you finding the tablet? What is the battery life like of the tablet? How is the handling of the tablet (especially compared to Nexus 7).

It's awesome, the best Android tablet for the majority without a doubt.

Should update the thread to indicate that my Shield Tablet got Lollipop this morning, with a few other goodies like expanded Grid service, major Dabbler overhaul, USB OTG Y-cable support for simultaneous charging, few other odds n ends.... and soon Half Life 2, Episode 1 coming when the LTE tab version gets it's update any day now.

How is the handling of the Sheild compared to the Nexus 7? I know the sheild is a bit bigger, but is it significantly bigger? What is the battery life like when doing things like web browsing and light use - maybe a movie or 2?

Battery life in general use is good, on a par with others in it's form factor.

Been a while since I handled a Nexus 7, from memory the size difference (given front facing speakers add to the bezels) is probably quite noticeable if coming from a Nexus 7 but it isn't a large tablet and I would think you would adjust quite easily.

No real advantage to that I wouldn't think. Cheaper to Import it yourself, any you find here with have been through the same process and potentially you get a little CGA protection, but expect it to be an eye wateringly premium additional cost.

After an evening of playing with this Lollipop updated Shield Tablet, I can safely say Nvidia seems to have knocked it out of the park here. Great stuff.

Has anyone here tried streaming their PC games to the shield?

  i.e.     http://shield.nvidia.com/play-pc-games/

That seems like an interesting capability.

Im interested in getting the tablet.

Where are people ordering them from? I looked on Amazon. Anywhere in NZ or AUS to get the correct power adaptor?

Thanks

Yep, I've streamed last year's Tomb Raider and also some Gamecube/Wii games via Dolphin Emulator on my PC, works well.

Got mine from Amazon via Shipito (like youshop). I'm just using the charger it came from via an adapter, no need for stepdown transformers or anything else.

Which model did you end up getting?

Another stupid question: Does it take SD cards?
