Finally got to try a Gear S on, in DSE Wellington of all places. It is not as big on my wrist as I was expecting. While it is still big, its shape fit well. What I was disappointed by was how little the display actually was for such a large wearable. I was expecting the display to be almost as big as the glass, but it has a black bezel around it. I guess there has to be somewhere for the display drivers to be but it seems a bit excessive.

As a follow up, and to go slightly OT, I ended up spearing off and getting a Sony Smartwatch 3. Early stages yet but reasonably happy with it. It sits a bit flatter on my wrist than some of the others I had tried (including the Moto 360 and Gear S) and I like the way it uses ambient light when not active. Major downside at the moment, not so keen on the strap. Hopefully there may be some aftermarket solutions arise, although the watch design doesn't lend itself to that.
