I am about to pull the trigger on one of these from the UK but am totally confused about the 4g network thing. I see it supports Band 7, but according to what I can find only that will only support 4g in Auckland (where I live). Anyone have any experience or is basically just more tech savy than me?

I was hoping to use skinny or 2 degrees. That said, I really just need a new phone so if it doesn't use 4g perhaps it doesnt really matter that much.

You really want bands 3 (1800) and 28 (700)  for it to be successful..  You won't find much Band 7 (2600) around..

I'm writing this from my moto g 3rd gen that I bought in the UK. I generally like it. Am using it on Skinny OK at the mo, getting 4G in a small town, but poor reception out of town. Am planning to change to 2 degrees when my credit runs out.
My recommendation is to buy the 16g version cos the 8gb only has 4.53gb actually available which I have already filled with apps. Otherwise I'm loving it.

It came up earlier in the thread, but the one you want for Aussie and NZ is the XT 1550. It has band 28, band 3 and band 7. It also has dual sim and a 16gb version.
http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g_dual_sim_%283rd_gen%29-7469.php - check the network options for XT1550.

This is the one Vodafone/Motorola Aussie will be supplying for AU and if/when it gets here, it is likely to be the one for NZ as well.

Thanks guys. My brother is buying it he seems to think it's ok. If it only gets 3g in most places that's okay

Out of curiosity, where is your brother getting it from?

I just got a Moto X Play(xt1562 2 sim version) on eBay for NZ$560 including shipping(DHL Express only took 3 days arrive in NZ), it was shipped from India. Moto G suppose to be a lower end phone with cheap price if they are going to sell it above NZ$400 here I suggest to spend a hundred more to get the Moto X Play instead.

True, thinking about the Moto X as well.

Moto G is retailed at $379AUD, I would expect it will be around the 400 price mark in NZ.

Might as well as grab a Moto X 2 now for the same price around 400.

At this price point, I might just get a Vodafone Smart Prime and unlock it :(

Yep.  For what it is it's now way too expensive.  I'm kicking myself for not buying the  5" model  at Noel Lemmings last year for $199..

Does anyone know if that Noel Leeming link is for the 8GB or 16GB version? It doesn't mention the storage on the page.
