I plan on getting the Z5 Compact to replace my Z3C. Disappointed they stuck with 720p though, Z5P gets 800+ ppi, Z5C only 320ish :(
Also hope the 810 over heating issues seen in the Z3+/Z4 aren't repeated in the Z5 series.
Was also hoping for wireless charging seeing as they removed the magnetic dock connector.
Oh well, still going to get one as no other premium flagships in a compact body exist.

Finch:
solaybro: What sort of prices would be expected for each phone?

At a guess id say $1000 for the Z5, $1200 for the premium

According to Androidpit:
Z5 Premium €799
Z5 standard €699
Z5 Compact €549

Doing a straight currency conversion that equals just under $1000NZD for the Compact and just over $1400NZD for the Premium. The Z3C was $749 at launch in NZ so fingers crossed these devices will hit our shores with better pricing than in Europe.

It looks like all of these phones will be out of my price range, hopefully the price of the Z3C gets knocked down a bit and I might buy that instead.

I'm a big fan of my Z3 and am really excited to see what the Z5 range have to offer. The premium may have to be the next phone on my list although that lack of wireless charging is a bit of letdown. My bet is they are going to sell some kind of wireless charging cover or something. If you haven't already seen it, GSM Arena have posted up a preview of the Z5 range.

Ouch, doing a straight conversion on that equals just over $1300NZD for the Z3C, a little over $1400NZD for the Z3 and just under $1700NZD for the Z3P! I prefer the Euro pricing :p

They'll be dead in the water if they release them with that price.

Exactly what I was thinking, people were saying $1300 was too much for the recently released Samsung phones.

Sony launch high, but typically drop price pretty quick soon after (or bundle other goodies in for free).

Talking of price drops, I doubt any future Sony will be able to match the M9. I see the $1,200+ HTC M9 is now free on a Vodafone $69 24 month plan - basically, they are giving them away.

Yes no way in hell I will be paying those prices, but I was kind of expecting them to be higher than the z3 etc due to our falling dollar :(

I like sony, I really do but I am going to see what the nexus range is this year and might jump back to that.  Slow patches and pricing on sony is what is killing the idea of a z5 for me. :(

The Z3 Compact didn't have a high launch price, $749 on release, Sony RRP today is $699. But with the weak NZ dollar, I'm not expecting Z5 family will be so nicely priced. :(

I have used the Z2 as my daily driver for the last 18 months and it's far and away the best phone I've used (previously owned Nexus, iphone and Samsung). However, despite the Z5 improving on the Z2 in almost every respect, a couple of days after its release, I don't think the Z5 will be my next phone.

The Z5 looks almost identical to the Z2 in design - in fact it looks more like the Z2 than the Z3+. And while Z5 functionality is outstanding, I just want my next phone to look and feel a little different to what I've been using for nearly two years. It's a pity that Sony haven't taken design evolution into the Xperia equation. Yes, the omni-balance design has been great, but they need to evolve the aesthetics, not just functionality.

So thinking maybe new Moto, or maybe a return to the new Nexus when announced?

I'm going to jump from the Z1 compact to the Z5 so a big upgrade for me. Lets just hope my pockets are deep enough, in both senses of the term :-)

You will be surprised how quickly the larger size feels the norm. You'll wonder how you ever coped with such a tiny phone.
