Just to follow up on this thread, @MurrayM - did you end up finding compliant, safe but well-priced cables and adapters?

I see Amazon ships a Black Squid cable to NZ, which is apparently an ok cable going by the "guru" mentioned above - around US $18 including shipping.

Can anyone advise of a better-value but still safe cable than this?

What would be the best-value but ok micro
And, sorry for the dumb question, but do I need to have compliant cables even if charging my future phone (looking at V20 or Mate 9) with a standard charger, or would my existing 2.0 micro USB cables be ok for this? And, if the standard cables are ok, would any micro
Thanks for any direction; it seems inevitable that my new phone will have a type c connection, so I want to be prepared with the right cables!

Well @jonathan18 so far only one of the cheap cables I ordered from AliExpress has arrived. It transfers data ok and charges the phone (but not rapid charge). I haven't experienced any problems so far. Is it 100% "safe"? I don't know.

I also bought a cable from PB Tech (I think it was around the $15 mark, Unitek brand I think). Both the cheap cable and the expensive cable appear to operate the same.

Oh, I forgot to say that I tested the cables using the Ampere app and the instructions that they provide on how to test USB Type C cables here. Both the cheap AliExpress and more expensive PB Tech cable passed the test.

I bought some cables off TradeMe from "andy120" for $5.99, and they tested as being compliant with Ampere and CheckR.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. If the cheap cables don't provide 'rapid charge', then does that actually provide any risk?

Similarly, does it matter the quality of adapters if using a standard charger?

I'm thinking I'll order some decent cables off Amazon, as I've got a workmate who'll be in the US next week and can bring them back - going by this link there are many apparently complaint cables that are damn affordable, if you don't have to include YouShop postage!

But, if my supposition is correct (that using a standard charger with a fast charging phone means the cables/adapters don't matter to the same degree - great to have this confirmed either way) then I guess there's no point buying lots of additional USB C cables if an adapter will be ok with all my existing USB micro cables.
