Odin packages are available now if anyone is interested. Looking at update history, BTU like the aussie XSA seems to get more updates than the local carrier ones.

If I was confident enough to do this without soft bricking my phone I would.

First thing i did when i got mine was to flash the XSA firmware.

Not many phones I purchase stay on the telco's firmware as they are so slow at updates

Seems daunting but it's super easy. There are plenty of youtube vids showing you how to use Odin and even backup your data to your computer using samsung smartswitch (which is actually quite useful).

You could do the upgrade and use Home_CSC from the carrier firmware BUT this would mean you wouldn't get any further OTA's due to a mismatch between firmware and CSC codes. Plus since its a major OS change it's probably better with a fresh start and use smart switch to restore things.

CSC code decods to the provider. VNZ = VodaNZ, TNZ = Spark. XSA = non brand (and I think NZC is 2D)

I just flashed the BTU nougat firmware from sammobile via Odin.

I'd done all the back up stuff through smartswitch etc. But was unnecessary as all settings themes data etc seems to have been preserved.

I have the G930FD version which I believe had Taiwan firmware on it. The new firmware appears to work for both single and dual SIM (which mine is).

So if I wanted to update my S7 Edge to Nougat and have G935FXXU1BPI6, which firmware should I update to? This is my first time doing any flashing or anything, so any help is appreciated

So when you flash a samsung you need a program called odin

Depending on the firmware and the csc it may also delete what is on your phone (it resets if the csc changes).

I tend to download firmware from sammobile however that can be really slow.

XSA will be updated before branded firmware in AU or NZ. You could always use one from the UK etc (which tend to get betas a little faster) however I have always found it best to wait a week and just get an OTA (over the air) update on the XSA.

I would expect that android N will be out for XSA in a few days to a week, now they have started to release in the UK it won't be to far away for XSA

Always the same with update threads everyone want's what is new but generally no idea why(except those that come back with "security updates"). Sure change phones if you really want super fast update, I suggest Google phones or, take a deep breath and ponder what bad things are really going to happen by waiting.

List of differences I notice moving to 7.0

Can change screen DPI easily

Notification slide is way more comprehensive

Blue Light filter Native! (once I turned colour correction off)

Native Internet Browser has more options (back to top etc)

More notifications on Always On Display which can be double tapped to open

More power saving and performance options

I cant get the heart rate sensor to work in S-Health anymore.

probably a few more things, but yeah not too earth shattering

Thanks for the information! From what I can tell, XSA isn't on Nougat yet though, but what you are saying is that if I flash to XSA then I will get the update a lot quicker?
