$2200 is a bloody big chunk of change whichever way you look at it!

Yowza! I know a lot of people talk about de-googling your life, but I bet few in NZ will front up that much money for a phone with no GMS. If HMS was mature eco-system, this maaaaaayyyyyyybe could have worked, but you are paying first class prices for a second class experience. Hell of phone though, hardware wise.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Harmony OS in future though. Especially if there are any more casualties in the China-US trade-war.

Hi All,

I updated to the P40 Pro a couple of weeks back, sorted out GMS. Its one amazing phone fast with one of best camera systems around 5G, WiFi 6, 256GB storage 8GB RAM, Hi Res display with 90Hz refresh, proper Apple like face ID, 40Watt charging etc.  Just received the latest firmware update this morning now on 10.1.0.158 with July Security update.

No downsides for the price of phone its rediculously cheap at $1099 for what you get.

I have everyting I need operational:

  • Google maps
  • Youtube and Youtube music
  • Netflix
  • Gmail though I don't use it

Did you get Google Pay going?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Hi hairy1,

Good question I never used it historically but for you I downloaded it from the Playstore it installed fine that I can see though I'm no expert . My Credit card was automatically pulled down as I pay for Google services I can see recent activity under the Home screen, under Payment I can see my Credit card.

I can edit Gpay account settings not sure if this is everything or not.

So no errors that I can see but not sure how to see if its working I guess other than paying for somthing ?.

Hope this helps.

Okay bit more time, I can see I cant setup contactless payments from the phone, as I said not really an issue for me as I prefer old school but I may see if I can install the Samsung app on my Galaxy watch and see what happens.

Bumping this (Sorry!)

My phone is clearly dead (Water = bad)

I am looking at a new one and I saw Noel Leeming has the P40 Pro for cheap.

However, I know the app situation is a bit weird, but I am just wondering if anyone has managed to get any of these apps working properly?

Fitbit

MyFitnessPal

ASB

Maps (Google is best but Bing or Here is fine too)

COVID Tracer app

Those are the main ones I care about.

Cheers

MyFitnessPal
ASB

Unsure on but rest okay if you install Google Services. Look at videos online.

Kiwibank works also.

That said still a pain for some apps example the NZ McDonald's app is broken.

Love the phone but will get a fully supported one next time. When this gets a bit older I'll look at what Roms can been installed.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Thanks for replying.

In the end I decided it's not worth the stress and went for a Xiaomi phone instead.

Some of the newer Xiaomi ones are also banned in January 2021 before he left office.
