So, I picked up a $699 Nord from Noel Leeming..
I like it so far, seems to be a good phone for the money.
Any idea how I can enable 5G....? Or is it locked forever?

Well the Mrs is loving her new personal phone.
Just curious will they enable 5g on it, as it has the hardware?
I have pretty much all the brands on my collection of work phones and retired phones and yet this is my first OP and Im so annoyed I didnt try it earlier. Really nice OS Skin, better than native Android in many ways.
Ive tested Pixel Gcam on the imx586 sensor which was a bit underwhelming, but GCam really sharpens things up and gets a better focus to begin. Nightscape is actually pretty good but Gcam night mode brings out a few more shadow contrasts thanks to its excellent AI and HDR+. Compared to the old Pixel imx363 the images are noticably better when Pixel peeping, on screen they are similar. But its weakness is any time trying to use HDR facing light, the lower the sun gets the worse the IQ gets. So keeping that in mind, imo this a much better buy than the Pixel 5. I will upgrade to the Pixel 6 which I expect to use a sensor similar to Huawei or Mi10 Pro (700 and 686 sensors).
My only gripe, why am I getting ads in apps that no other brand displays? I looked at the draw over settings and they don't help. For example the Metservice app has a lot of adverts, my Samsung and Xiaomi are not displaying them, any advice??
Id give it a 7.5/10, considering in Aus the Nord is $580 and the P5 is $1000, it is easily better value and very similar, but superior hardware and a nicer screen if the 5 is like the p4.
Why didnt they include a headphone adapter in the box? 3.5mm is not a huge deal but they should have included an adapter at least.
5G will likely come with a software update.
Im running an android 11 beta on the OnePlus 8 Pro which has enabled 5G where as the android 10 stable didnt have it, its just my carrier doesnt have 5G where i live at the moment.

no idea that's down to whats in the software for your model
I read a number of reviews saying the cams were no good on the OP 8 and Nord.
Total RUBBISH.
So I have put Gcam on the Nord and I have tested both the stock app, Gcam and the Pixel 4a.
The winner was the OP Nord HDR algorithim.
I have not tested the latest Gcam with astrophotography yet but will once it is available, but it is a minor improvement.
One thing I noticed though, in a dark room, you have to press the focus button on the OP Cam app, this obviously focusses but it also opens up the exposure for HDR, if this isnt done then it takes dark images, but so does the Pixel.
Also noticable was how long the Pixel takes to take a simple image, where the OP Cam HDR is near instant, I presume it gathers its exposure frames much quicker.
Warning to those looking to buy parallel imported Oneplus devices from Noel Leemings, their stock of OnePlus are all India or China variants not global variants which lack the rather important Band 28 LTE
The team up at NL Manukau Supa Centre were kind enough to show me the boxes of all their variants in the hope we could find a global version of anything Oneplus, they contacted their supplier (KTC Group) who tried to convince NL that their techs confirmed it will work fine in NZ on all bands. NL happily refunded me without drama, so other than a couple of hours of my time no harm done but be careful
For the brief play i had with the Nord it's a great phone and would have been a great successor to my aging 5T

I bought my wife’s Nord from NL via The Market, so interested in digging into this; how do I check this, ie a specific sub-model number, or an app that can confirm supported bands etc? Thanks.
