The new mid-range OnePlus phones finally arrived in NZ with PB Tech, here in Onyx Gray and here in Blue Marble. Seems to only be in the 8/128 config but can't turn down that 2 year warranty.

I managed to pick mine up yesterday, and went for the latter colour. I'm enjoying mine so far. Very light, and performs very well for everyday tasks. Plus no curved screen. 😋

Thoughts?

I'm seriously thinking of selling my note 10+ for one of these, I wonder if they have a demo Model to play around with at pbtech.

I tried my luck yesterday going in and thinking the same, but when I went to the store there wasn't any on display yet. Asked one of the staff about it and turns out they're able to give me one straight away.

Great deal for the price, and had an extra discount due to the weekend sale. It was this or the 4a, but with no local support for the 4a it was a no brainer.

Also showing on NL's website but at $779 (no stores were showing stock yesterday; not sure if they intend to keep it online orders only?).  These are the only NZ retailers currently showing on Pricespy (https://www.priceme.co.nz/OnePlus-Nord-5G-128GB/p-908330306.aspx).

As per another thread, I'm looking at one of these for my wife, and currently it's a choice between the Nord and a Samsung A71; do you feel the Nord is worth the bit of extra dosh?

I considered this, but wary of in-screen fingerprint readers. How well does this one work compared with a hardware fingerprint reader? I've ordered the Pixel 4a, but I like that the Nord has more cameras, faster CPU, but I'd prefer the size of the 4a.

@Nikt should be able to give you a definitive answer.

So the Nord has completely disappeared off the PB Tech website; the pages don’t just list nil stock, but the pages have been removed eg https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MPHOPL082000/OnePlus-Nord-Dual-SIM-Smartphone-8GB128GB---Onyx-G

What gives?

I think their pages talked of delivery from 10 Oct. I hope this doesn’t indicate they’ll not be stocking it at all, just after my wife confirmed she wants one!

I asked PBTech, this is what they said

PB Tech:

Hey there, Nord is so popular it is in super short supply globally, we are waiting for confirmation of when more stock will be available and hope to have Nord back up for order soon. Thanks!

That’s a more upbeat reply than I got to the same query! - mine was the rather more terse:
Sorry we have no eta for new stock at this stage

That the pages have been removed rather than just amended to reflect no stock doesn’t fill me with hope that they’ll have the phone available soon, which indicates PBTech’s status as an authorised reseller doesn’t seem to mean much in terms of ensuring a supply of product...

Before that when the pages are up, there stocks showing right? Wonder if anyone bought it and got any confirmation and received their phones?

If they take it down & said waiting for more stocks available, I wonder if there even actually have actual stocks on hands when the pages are up? or the numbers showing stocks are just fake numbers?

Normally when a product out of stock, the page still up & show out of stock.

Yep, it does seem a bit weird, especially given how PB Tech was encouraging people to register their interest over the last few weeks. (That said, I registered my email address but never received an email.)

It would be good if NikT would fill us in as to what’s going on.

I’d rather not have to buy from NL...

Amazon sell them here (Dubai).

Warranty is only valid in India though!

In all seriousness you could use shop and ship. Aramex home base is the UAE and obviously they own Fastway. I'd guess they'd charge around $30 for freight, I normally get Echo devices for around $20 from the US using shop and ship.

The phone is around $575 here for the 128gb version.

Doh! That's what happens when I try to read and reply while out walking!

That's not a bad idea to bulk buy, and a pretty good price; my biggest concern, though, is the lack of warranty and CGA coverage. (I've moved in the last few years to buying NZ-sourced phones, just to avoid this risk.)
