DANOFDANGER: I purchased through samsung.

512gb fold 3
Fold case + S Pen
Watch 4 40mm
Galaxy buds 2

$3098

The harvey norman deal looks better, with its $300 gift card. But i wasnt sure if i could use that to purchase the buds 2. So i just did it through samsung. And got the extra case and pen.

A quick back of the envelope calculation shows the deal you got through Samsung is almost ($18) as good as any of the retailers assuming $2900 for the phone+watch $280 for the buds and $120 for the case, $80 for the pen.

I am trying to work out if the “Fold Case with S-Pen” will actually lie flat on a surface when opened. And if the $120 price I found is for the cover and pen or just the cover. Going by Samsung cover prices in the past I’d be amazed if it includes the pen.
If I decide to go ahead with the ZF3 then I will probably go with Noel Leeming (who have matched HN with a gift card) and suck up the watch not being exactly what I’m after.

@m1dday I viewed the ZF3 at HN Westgate, Auckland.

They look like great watches.  Sadly I am not on the schedule to buy having brought the note 20 ultra last year.

I am keen on some accessories if people buying the bundle want to get some quick cash.  Keen on:

  • UE Hyperboom (to pair with the one I got with the Note 20)
  • Galaxy Buds Pro
  • Either model of Galaxy Watch
  • Samsung Smart Tag
  • Sennheiser Headphones

I normally work on 50% of RRP for the bundled accessories which works for someone who wants a quick and simple sale.

Wow, $700 reduction from the previous models. That’s one serious punch in the wallet for current owners! I’ll have another look at Fold 3, to see how it’s progressing. The Fold 2 I thought was too heavy, too thick, too small in single screen mode & not big enough in dual mode. Other than that, it was sweet. Apart from battery life & being overpriced.

Yes i think the killer is going to be battery life on these things, they either need bigger batteries or faster charging tech, i.e. Get home from work, going out, phone on 20% put on charger, have a shower get dressed and have it charged to over 80% in that time.

On my end, I'm not particularly worried about the possible bad battery on the Flip since for my use case there'd be not a lot of places I wouldn't be able to charge. The 3300mAh battery on 120hz reminds me when I had a Pixel 4 (90hz on 2800mAh). That was bearable enough and I think I should be fine on these.

I thought about ordering but it's already out of stock. Samsung had a special deal with extra discount that I'd registered for so not sure if that'll still work when they have stock.

I can confirm the Flip3 has one SIM card slot plus an ESIM.

I had a play with the Fold 3 today.

Pretty good actually, especially the screen protector they've used this time.

I couldn't get it to make a mark unlike the Fold 2 which you could easily do with your finger nails.

Yea i had a play with it yesterday. Even compared it to the fold 2. Which you can see the fold 3 is more refined and feels better in the hand. If the battery life ends up being comparable to the note 10 plus that i have. It will surely replace the note line as my daily driver.

Turns out the case+spen is rrp $125 and PBTech are doing them as a pre order for $98 (so not the $120+$80 that I thought). I asked at each retailer about flexibility with the pre order bonuses (want a ‘Classic’ Galaxy Watch), no dice from any of them. Most disappointed in PBT as theirs is an internal deal nota Samsung one. Now tossing up whether to go ahead and accept the GW4 isn’t as good as the Classic, or wait for the Labour Weekend Sales.

If you are a student through Samsung NZ edustore, the new Z 3 series are cheaper with an additional 20% dc on the student prices. I’ve seen that the Z Flip 3 is $1299.99 on the edustore right now.

Those that have ordered the Fold 3, what cover will you get? This is the most I’ve ever spent on a phone so it deserves more that an AliExpress special like I’ve bought for previous phones. Plus the chance of a cover arriving from China before the Fold 4 is announced is slim!

I want something that will lie flat on a table when it’s opened and also stops the phone rocking on the camera bump.

The official Samsung wallet cases include a leather ‘flip’ case that converts into stand ($140) and has a finger strap and a ‘Case with S-Pen’ ($128) that has the pen holder on the spine where the hinge is. Neither is available until the phone is released. I prefer wallet cases as they protect the (front) screen.

There are also some back shell and frame cases which cover the back but only put a frame around the front screen of the phone leaving the screen open with only its edges protected. And most of them don’t protect the hinge. They range from about $60 to $80.

There are also a couple Spigen cases which are backshell and frame models but they have some hinge protection, one with a bumper that will make the phone seesaw ($120) and one where the hinge cover slides into the rear cover when the fold is opened ($110). Every YT review I have watched of the sliding one shows the frame popping off the front unless it is secured to phone with a sticker.

There seem to be some Otterbox ones that are very minimal as well.

PB Tech did have some of the above as a launch special but they are rapidly disappearing so I have quoted the rrp in each case. I’d rather be able to see the cover in the flesh than take a punt online, even if that costs a little extra. Having said that, it depends how long lockdown lasts……..
