IS there anyway one can use the pass in google wallet WITHOUT having a pincode etc to unlock the android phone?

- My 70yo mother decided it was time to get a "smart phone" recently.  We have set her up without pin code.  She only uses the phone to scan into places, receive whatsapp calls and if required dial out if she ever needs to (but hardly needs to).

I guess she could get used to pincode but I can see it will be a PIA for her whilst shes grappling to deal with the complexities of mastering the basics that us younger folk take for granted.

Boarding planes is going to be interesting ... double the time to scan on, maybe triple as people have to switch apps then switch back to the boarding pass at the plane to show the cabin crew.

As far as I’m aware, Air New Zealand are going to allow you to link your vax cert into their App. So it will be like Gyms are doing, where you’ll need to verify it once and the it will be linked to your ‘membership’. Not sure if it will transfer to international flying though. But then that’s a different cert anyway.

Take a screenshot into her photo gallery and have it on her homepage as a shortcut perhaps?  AFAIK the wallet requires a security method.

The best option I know of to avoid having to use a pin code everytime you use your phone is to use an app like Stocard and put the Covid Pass in there.

I'm not familiar with Android, but is it possible to configure a PIN but set it to only prompt for it once a day or similar?

Not as far as I know. Once you activate Google Pay you have to have some form of security to unlock the phone, which is understandable but even so you'd think it could be set up in such a way that the PIN or what ever you use is only required to access Google Pay but as far as I can tell this isn't an option.

My only phone is a work supplied iphone7 with latest iOS version.

I don't use a PIN or face recognition, so the phone opens as soon as I touch the home button.

I don't need, or want, to add my personal credit card to apple wallet.

My Covid certificate is loaded into wallet, but when I open wallet the top half of the screen shows a window to add a credit card. The bottom half of the screen shows the top part of my certificate. I can scroll down to show the rest of the certificate, but it drops down again as soon as I stop scrolling.

Is there a way to get the full certificate to display correctly?

I do have a credit card in mine so I'm not sure exactly how it's supposed to work when you don't have one, but don't scroll. Just tap the top of the vaccine pass and it should pop into view.

Behodar:

I tried to help my dad set this up over the weekend and while everything appeared to work as normal (it asked him to confirm he wanted to add it, asked for his PIN, etc.) the actual QR code just came up as a blank square. There were also some 'placeholders' that looked like they should contain name/DOB (assuming it works like the iOS one) but they were also blank. Has anyone run into that?

Solved. Google Pay wasn't installed. You'd think it wouldn't let you create a non-working home screen link in the first place if you don't have it...

MikeB4:

Any Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 users managed to get the Pass to load into Google Pay on the Watch?

I couldn’t get this to work on my GW4 with Google Pay, so I came up with a work around.

I cropped the pdf of the certificate, saved as a png and transferred it to the gallery on my GW4.

I have it set up so a double tap on the home button opens the gallery app and since there is only the one file in it, it opens the certificate.

Scans okay when I zoom the image so the QR fills at least half the screen when I tested it with the verifier app my ZFold3. I have it zoomed so the QR fills the whole screen and can just roll it down if people want to compare to Name and DoB on another document.

Anyone here having problems  with Samsung phone retaining the Vax pass to stay on their home screen??   My wife and I have new Galaxy  52s 5G phones and the passport is in Google Pay and I can add it to the home screen but next day it is gone and you have  to put it back again and so on.  Consumer NZ had a article about setting this up and several people there have had the same problem.

I have the same problem on my Samsung Z Fold 3, but I haven't tried to do anything about it yet.

Pattern works.

Just sorted it with my dad.

Just pick something easy like a seven shape or up and down

Yeah it happened on my phone. Firmly believe it is related to having Smart Unlock function activated on phone. It is activated on my phone and shortcut to pass keep disappearing. My wife has same model phone but doesn't use Smart Unlock and her pass is still on home screen.

The workaround is to put shortcut to Google Pay app on home screen.
