My Pixel 4a works great, really good phone. However I would probably look at Samsung next time as it's easier than importing. Apple makes great phones, the iPhone SE is pretty fast and moderately priced.

Just to let everyone know...and to probably close this thread. I picked up a Samsung S21+

Funny, since the title of this thread was "anything but a Samsung" :)  So far, so good. There are a few minor annoyances with the UI, but a couple of tweaks and it's perfectly fine for me. I know the S22 is due out soon, but the S21 is the upgrade I needed for the next few years (then the phone will be handed down to someone else in the family and I can look again at something different).

Great stuff!  That's the phone that I settled on - I've been discovering the DeX side of things (as I like a full keyboard).

My recommendation if you are looking for a dock is one of the Skull&Co docks: https://skullnco.com/

How are you using DeX? With the docking, the desktop app or with a Samsung smart monitor?

With docking mainly:

- Dell docking station connected to a 24" tv (720p only)

- Skull&Co docking station in my home office (KVM switch for when I cannot be bothered switching on the windows machine.

- BaseUs docking station at work (connected to a 24" dell screen)

- a USB-C to HDMI cable (with power passthrough) for when I'm mobile, usually on a big TV.

- official samsung dock for usage in our lounge (handy for doing things like ordering pizza with an app with in a group.

At some point, planning on getting  Uperfect lapdock, haven't pulled the pin yet owing to other priorities.

I've used the desktop app, it doesn't really get used that often (Your Phone in Windows is what I tend to use in that case)
