Yeah the more I look at it now the R is only 85% the phone. 12 it is. the Sammie's prices are nuts now hey!
Where would you get a 12 if price and speed of arrival (I wonder if they have any locally, prob only in Aus at best) was the main factor. Bexectech is 1229 and I kinda trust em xD

Happy to recommend mobilestation.co.nz and supero.co.nz - I've bought phones off them before and had good experiences with both.  Suggest you email to confirm local availability, as they'll likely drop-ship from HK/CN.

gzt: Support life is four years of o/s updates plus one year security. Not bad. I've spent my phone money on other things this year already. Does it get voWifi from NZ carriers?

My friend has listed 1TB 16GB version on trademe if someone is interested to go all out :)

Looking at getting one of these to replace my Oneplus 9 Pro, so thought I'd post what I've managed to figure out so far in case it's of use to others.

There are a couple of hardware variants (India/China and Global) with the Chinese variant having ColorOS, different radio hardware (fewer bands) and no eSIM hardware support. Other than the eSIM support, this doesn't look to be an issue for NZ, as all three network providers are fully compatible from what I can tell.  If you travel frequently to other countries, the global variant is probably a better option for you.

The ColorOS variant can easily be flashed with a global OxygenOS ROM build to get the full Android experience though (Play Store, Android Auto etc), most sellers are doing this for next-to-nothing, but it's pretty straightforward to do yourself too.  Buying these re-flashed models seems to be around $300 cheaper than getting the global variant, with little downside, so is likely the way I'll go.  My OP9 was parallel imported too, and it's never missed a beat here, or when roaming in the US on AT&T.

There are some reddit threads about the Chinese variant units made in 2024 being region-locked in an effort to counteract parallel importing, but sellers seem to be unlocking these when they update to OxygenOS too.

Locally, Mobilestation and Becextech have these listed now, and Supero said they planned to have them listed by end of February, so should be available soon.  There is a supposedly 'official' Oneplus NZ reseller based out of Melbourne, but it looks sketchy.

HTH - I'll update with any other information I find, and if/when I get one.

So if I get flashed with the  global OxygenOS ROM build, can I still use banking apps, as they used to detect custom rom?

I know, indeed. It's frustratingly genius for Google to put in the Safetynet checks as a way to break most custom ROMS. I know you can circumvent this with patches etc. But this is above and beyond what I can allocate time to doing now as an adult.

I think that one from China with a Global ROM flash would work though. Just as long as you keep it unrooted which is what breaks SafetyNet.

I have done conversion of Oneplus 12 from Chinese to global myself. You unlock bootloader, flash global rom and lock again. All works no issues expect eSIM and  some network bands that are different from Global model.

Yeah, this - most important thing is to re-lock your bootloader, as it's very easy to get excited that the re-flash has worked, and set your phone up only to realize banking apps won't work because you forgot to lock it, and locking/unlocking is a system wipe.

So i ended up getting a oneplus 12 from thephonewarehouse.co.nz. The cheapest 12gb 256gb white version, it was $1228 with free shipping.

I ordered on Sunday 7th at 9pm ish. Automatic order confirmation from them in email then nothing till Tuesday night that week when i got a txt from dhl express saying i had a shipment i could mess with. i had other txts from the same number, all dhl express ones id had before so it was legit.

It said the shipment was from Sunshine Champi. weird but it looked like a company based out of Hong Kong.

I made sure all the details were correct on dhl and it said itd be here on Thursday. email on Wednesday from thephonewarehouse.co.nz saying itd been shipping and had the same dhl tracking. it arrived Thursday morning.

i was expecting to have to wait from 2 or more weeks so this super fast shipping was so nice.

The phone has been great, no issues at all. its running oxygen os and has since gotten a new update. no region locks either.

Folks, a tale of woe if you'll indulge me - I have a Huawei P30 Pro which I have absolutely adored since the day I got it. 99.999% perfect, never done anything weird, but alas after a series of poor decisions and unfortunate events the P30 Pro left the holder of the e-scoorter and hit the pavement at 23Kph. It has a tpu case which stayed on and aside from a few fine cracks and some shattering on one side of the curve, it appeasers to be fully functional and still quite usable.

I'm thinking the OnePlus 12 could be a good option. I just wish it was stocked by PB. In someways PB has quite a limited range of phones but I guess it must be a nightmare trying to manage stock for multiple models. I wonder how many models Mobile Station stock vs. dropship.

Thanks for sharing this - I'm looking at doing the same. I note that the website states: "Note: CN version with Play store", even when it's titled 'Global Version'. I've seen some random notes around functionality like Android Auto not working.

I'm assuming as you bought the white version, you didn't buy the Global Version. Can you confirm that there is no eSim support? Or any chance you've tested Android Auto?

Android Auto is part of the Google Play Services, so whilst it can be installed in ColorOS, it's not running as a system app, and seems to be VERY janky.  You get it OOTB when OxygenOS is flashed on the phone. eSIM is a little different, as it requires kernel (so probably hardware) support.

I've been playing games more recently on mobile so have upgraded to ROG 8 after a very short term use of OP12. I listed mine on TradeMe if anyone is interested here, I'll throw in your choice of Aramid Fibre or Sandstone OEM case for anyone here that buys it :)

OP 12 gets so many things right this year though. Looing forward to this OP comback!
