Just for future reference Artoo to roll back the Market go to Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications, click on Market and then Uninstall Updates. Occasionally it fixes the sporadic download failed messages that most people get at one time or another when silent Market update are pushed out by Google.

I have this set up now on my SGS. I have set a route from home to Point B but not actually given it a driving test yet. It's great to have a free TBT GPS app (so not wanting to look a gift-horse in the mouth) but it seems to be very sparse on features eg no switchable 2D/3D views, no day/night screens, etc, - all the things I have become accustomed to on my non-free Co-Pilot for Android. Am I expecting too much?

What I am really keen to see is Tomtom for Android. Sometime.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

08:43am - Turn by turn Nav is working in the stock Google Maps v4.7 on my Samsung Galaxy S / Froyo JP6.

No hack....It's just working.

So it looks like NZ is de facto included in the announcement for Australia.

peejayw: Love the feature where as you arrive at your destination you get a street view!
The one thing that is still an issue for me is the low volume on my Nexus One, hard to hear with road noise even when piped thru my BT handsfree. Another Nav app I have used on the same phone has plenty of volume so the phone is capable, just not doing it right.
Anyone else have low volume issues?

I mainly used CyanogenMod 6.0 on my Nexus One before I swapped it for a Galaxy S and the volume was more than adequate. Must be one of those additional good bits in CM.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Ha, yeah that street view as you get near to your destination is brilliant. Who's up for only looking at their cellphone as they drive the last 50 metres to their destination? No one? Ok forget I said that! ;)

If there was one issue for me it's that there are too many vocals. I keep getting 'slight bend to left ahead'. I'm like "Ok thanks for that! You're not a co-driver".

But otherwise it's brilliant. Looks like I'll have to get me a car charger for the phone now.

I still giggle at "contine continue on...."
Or the pronounciation of Hwy....

Drive home from work with it today, worked very well, even understood my voice for setting the destination (Voice Search, navigate to .....). Like being able to get a street view of the next turn (handy when sat at lights), and when you arrive at your destination it gives you a street view there too. I noticed that Navigation has its own volume level, and it just silences media volume when it is talking (quite nice for me, since I'm always listening to music from the phone whilst driving, so I won't miss the navigation prompts). Pronunciated is a little off at times, but in good enough, and I like how it tells you the street names for turns also.

I got a mini USB adapter for the cigarette lighter off eBay for about $2.10 [99p] delivered from HK to use with my Desire. Will give TBT Navigation a good test come Christmas with a 5 day road trip looming.

Just be aware that its possible for chargers to deliver less current than you are acutally using, especially for relatively intense use like GPS. You may end up with a battery being slowly discharged even while on the charger. Might pay to chose a charger with a higher mA rating.

Does anyone have a good link for a "how to" download and use cached maps for Google Navigation?

I have looked here there and everywhere but am still at a loss as to how best do this. I need to be able to use Google Nav [mostly] offline in Dec for the above mentioned road trip.

Hmmm just tried it out and it seems to be reading out an XML file in an extremely slow for me
X M L version equals one point zero....

Quite amusing but very very odd.

Edit: Ha it does get to the actual directions eventually it just insists on reading all the header stuff too

It does actually have a night mode, it's automatic based on the light sensor I guess.
