So it's been announced Google Navigation is coming to australia this week - http://www.itwire.com/your-it-news/mobility/43163-go-ogle-new-aussie-google-maps-navigation-beta-from-nov-17

And I guess it should also be coming to NZ as the NZ maps recently got updated with Googles own maps -  http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2010/11/changing-world-changing-maps.html

Has it been announced anywhere officially?

This would be seriously cool. Fingers crossed. Though usually if they don't specifically say so, then they won't. We're just used to being an after thought.

Should improve navigation a fair bit over what brut is providing. Otherwise i'll have to live with it pronouncing MWY (motorway) phonetically ("mmwhy").

How do you guys use Brut navigation? How to cache the maps? doesn't it use a lot of data?

Brut maps works fine
Only downside is you cna only cache the map you are using, once you exit that map, you need data to reload it. You can't store multiple maps and select them on your SD card :(

I used atlas creater to download the whole of chch maps onto my phone, so you can view the whole of chch in brut google maps / brut google navigation without a data connection. You need data to plan a route however.

I hit navigate by mistake this morning and......it works !
The only issue I see is that it thinks we drive on the RHS of the road, will take you arond tRHS of a round-a-bout, otherwise it's kinda cool, now if only I could work out how to send poi's to it through intents

Hah it does too! I checked on the way to work this morning (about 8) and it wasn't working, so it must have been enabled in the last few hours!

The advantage that Brut still has is that you can pre download your maps so avoid data costs, I cant find that on google maps yet (if anyone does post where).

So does the voice now pronounce things properly with the official nav?

And will this now work properly with brut nav? (so we can still have map caching)
