The one that has at least a dozen threads devoted to it (long lock times and jumpy inaccurate positions).  That and the lag issues are what have stopped me picking up what is otherwise a very attractive handset.  Can you point me to a link that covers that it has been fixed please?  Then I might get me a new phone for Christmas.

15 second lock, and 5 metres accuracy. (Also gets lock indoors). More accurate and responsive than wife's iPhone 3Gs GPS.

Lag can be easily remedied by OCLF 2.0 if you're actually experiencing any - not everybody does.

Enjoy your new Christmas present. Wink

Yes.  Thanks for the link.  I have been following that thread, although now it is almost two and a half thousand posts long it is hard to keep track of exactly where it is at.

lokhor: I haven't had any GPS issues since Froyo came out. The lock times have been insanely good with the new Speedmod K10H Kernel as well (9 GPS lock within 15 seconds).

Cooked Rom though, right?  Not standard FroYo pushed out by Samsung.

Edit: Sorry this is starting to go Off Thread.  I'll post on the SGS thread with any more questions...

Technical spec not much of difference to my SGS, won't be looking at it. It would be nice if 2.3 was made available to SGS though.

Its coming this Xmas but possibly only in Europe, in NZ, most likely in the new years.

No probs. I had it bookmarked for reference in case I ROM'd my SGS and lost the settings. My phone was sold by Bond&Bond as a vanilla 'international' unit, thus without the local settings, so the original GPS setting were doubtless Nthn Hemisphere jobbies. Deleting those was likely the biggest improvement.

Know what you mean about that megathread. Testament to the SGS's flaws, and it's popularity. I imagine Mauricio will lock it at some point, but for now, it just keeps on keeping on. Laughing

Don't see myself getting the Nexus S because of the lack of external SD. Don't understand that. As a dev, it'd be useful to have an unmodified Gingerbread but unless the phone's deeply discounted to me, I'm not buying. I have a suspicion that Gingerbread will end up on my SGS anyway.

I must admit my first thought ws to get one since I will be in the US over Xmas (as I was last year when I got my N1). The lack of a SD doesn't bother me too much since I only have a 8G card in my N1 and that's not full by any means. No trackball might be a pain but the trackball makes up for some lack of precision in the touch on the N1.

What I might do is play with one at Best Buy first and see if I like it. Then I can make an informed decision.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Nothing like a hands-on to get a feel for responsiveness and such. However, my music eats up a significant amount of room on the ext SD, as do videos, so an extra 16GB certainly wouldn't be an extravagent gesture as far as I'm concerned. So, no ext SD, no sale. Pity as in most respects it seems like it will be a more refined and better performing SGS.

Oh well...

Cheers,

I am curious if I can buy this over the internet or you have to be either US/UK residents?? The price is pretty attractive

If it had a microSD slot I'd probably be all over it, despite not really offering a hardware advantage over my Galaxy S, but without a microSD slot its a fail for my use.

I'll hold out for the dual-core handsets set to hit next year I think... hopefully the fact that this is virtually a Galaxy S with a NFC chip thrown in will mean that the dev community can port Gingerbread to the SGS quickly...

I agree with many of you, with no LED notifications, no SD slot, no FM radio, possibly no 720p recording i'll be steering clear.

Sure it has a few hardware niceties such as the NFT (that only works partially anyway), and the ergonomic screen but there is nothing on this phone that makes me want it any more than my N1.

On another note it's one of only a handful of phones which will 100% support the new Google Maps 5 and its neat 3D-esque vector buildings (which i'm also assuming won't be active in NZ anyway).

And you can bet it will be the closer part to $1000 when it arrives in NZ stores, the nexus 1 launched for a similar price in the US back in Feb

noLED makes the lack of a dedicated LED moot, I think. It's a tiny (free) app and does the biz as advertised. Wasn't aware there was no FM radio, which is another deal-breaker for me.

Lack of an external SD seems like such a stupid move, especially as devs need to be able to test that functionality in hardware. I find it an unfathomable omission.

Hi, I have a question about the AGPS. I saw people mentioned about the AGPS is an enhanced GPS. Can i use the GPS function without connect to internet?
What I mean is will AGPS act as same as normal GPS (ie. TomTom) which can direct me drive from one place to anther WITHOUT connect to internet.

The reason why I am asking about this is I want to buy a GPS (ie. TomTom). and I am using 2degree prepay cell phone, not the contract plan (no free internet data stream). I am very interested in the nexus S. if nexus s can perform similar function (it's not a GPS machine anyway) to the normal GPS machine, I just buy the nexus s instead of TomTom.

Thanks Guy.

You'd be better off getting one of the Nokias that has free turn by turn navigation if that's your major feature must-have as that works entirely offline and is awesome

See the Nokia site for list of compatible phones

You can, depending on the SOFTWARE that you use to run the navigation. Google Nagivation DOES NOT work offline in the way that you expect.

Thanks for your quick reply. Can you recommend any SOFTWARE which can be used to run the navigation, please?
Then, i can take a look this software, and decide if i am going to buy nexus s or not.
Thanks again.
