You never know what the NZ price will be, I've just quoted above as an indication. It is substantially less than comparable Android units though, so they should be able to undercut comparable phones in NZ as well.

The U8150 is selling in the Phillipines for 8,800 pesos which through XE.com works out to $NZD260. Pricespy is showing the same unit is available locally for $280ish if you shop around, so the price isn't too far out.

Hopefully, if 2Degrees is buying in bulk, they can negotiate a bit. The Philippines also has a VAT rate of 12%. Plus, as Huawei are the manufacturer and Cherry are just rebranding the phones, Cherry will be putting their own mark up on them as well.

Funny though, why would they officially it on CES while it's already on sale since a few months ago in Europe and in the Phillipines and some folks have done a review on the retail model?

The internal memory is still undetermined ? The article above said it's 4 but gsmarena list it as either 2/4 so there might be 2 version OR they're just not sure lol. (gsmarena also list x6 as having only 2)

Article also saying that the price in hk will be about US386 which is about 501 ..................surely it's gotta be lower when it gets here hahaha.

CANT WAIT. THIS KID WANT HIS CANDY.

Yes I'm looking forward to the launch too but do worry that we could see a price point of 5-600 which would make the phone unattractive.

Guess we'll see soon enough

That would push the the price of the X6 too close to the Nexus S/Galaxy S for my liking

Huawei makes decent phones, but they have virtually zero direct support as far as I can see. They need to actually be an established brand to compete in the high end market and start expecting to sell their mobiles for sizable sums of money.

When I spoke to the chap at 2Degrees he seemed quite positive that it would only be a little more expensive than the U8150, putting it in the 350-450 bracket. That's what we're seeing in the pricing from the other countries selling this unit.
I agree with you guys that 500+ from this manufacturer for this phone is something that few people would part with their money for.

The only way Huawei will be able to increase their market share in that upper tier of phones is by coming out with a good solid phone at a super cheap price. This is they way I think that they are trying to go.
Right now they are known as a producer of USB modems and low cost handsets.

And you'll only be able to browse sites on your phone approved by the Chinese government.

And google is blocked on the phone. ...........So much for android huh ?

You'll see the real information come through tomorrow, as it will be announced on the 6th on the US, making it the 7th NZT

This in particular got my attention
"The X6 runs Android 2.2 (though it'll be interesting to see if that is upgraded before its release in Q2, 2011) without any embellishments from Huawei."

They are stating a Q2 release for the X6 in Australia. That possibly means that they are waiting to launch the X6 with Gingerbread.
