Never got a case, they just get covered in fluff an stuff... I bought a really good screen protector instead. A Momax. 2 months and not a mark on it!
Still not a mark on my phone either (probably because of the rubbery surface) and I'm pretty rough with my tech (being a truck driver exposes my phone to all sorts of abuse).

I don't like cases - they bulk up the phone and spoil the style. My P500 is 3 months old and is hardly marked. And we replace them every couple of years, so why bother?

When updaing to V10B_00 will I need to reinstall downloaded apps and re do all my phone settings ? [I'll backup contacts etc to the SIM card]

Note I note V10B_00 is approx 125Mb

Nop, you don't have to back up anything or reinstall all the apps.

Android software upgrades is just like iOS, just leave it updating, the system upgrading process wont change anything.

However, i have to say that I didnt notice any difference after the software upgrades + the LG desktop software is a pain to use.

I was hoping that V10B would fix my phone so that vibrate works. In silent mode the phone does not vibrate when calls or txt are received despite that setting saying so i.e. only vibrate in silent mode

The keyboard has that slight vibrate when typing so I know the phone can do it LOL

Yea, the phone definitely should vibrate in silent mode, I place the phone in silent mode a lot and it vibrates.

One shortcut, try to reduce the volume level, whenever I decrease the volume, the phone will be in silent mode and it vibrates for incoming calls & txt automatically.

You can change the settings about the silent & vibrate etc.

Well, if that doesnt work, I would try upgrading the software too.

FYI 2.2.2 [V10D] is available for the P500 at least in India

I have held back from any updates so far, as you can only root 2.2 (not 2.2.1 or 2.2.2).
During may 2.3 is supposed to be released so I'm waiting for that.

I was just looking at the P500 for somebody on the vodafone website, and it says it doesn't have an email client. I thought running android it would able to colect email via gmail? Is that not how it works? I have very little experience with 'smart phones' and zilch with android. What exactly would the email client do that is missing on the P500?

Has anbody with the P500 also played with a samsung galaxy 580? How do they compare with each other?

Both are at a pricepoint that suits somebody I'm helping to choose a new phone.

Oh, which one has the 2.8 inch screen? Both have 3.2 listed on the vodafone website, hmmm, maybe there website is a little wonky with the details.

Just a suggestion if you're thinking of buying the P500 outright. You may find it cheaper through 2Degrees ($419 vs $439 at VF currently) and the 2D product comes with a screen mount for use with NDrive and Google Navigation, plus a car charger all thrown in. Maybe VF do the same, but their site doesn't appear to mention it. Also, the 2D models are unbranded, so none of those horrible VF/Telecom startup screen stuff etc. Once you change the APN settings etc, you're away. The P500 has both an email client for GMail and another one for your usual POP/IMAP accounts, plus they're bound to be others in the market. The P500 has a 3.2" screen, which I find is about the smallest I could cope with.

The Samsung has a weird 240 x 400 resolution on it's 3.2" screen.
The LG has 320 X 480 (HVGA) so more available apps.

Samsung running Android 2.1 (no word on official updates according to ComputerWorld)
LG runs 2.2 (with a promise of an update to 2.3)

Edit: it appears the Samsung has 256mb Ram (with 170 available for apps) no putting apps on SD with stock 2.1
LG has 512mb ram (with 170 available for apps) but apps can be put on the SD with stock 2.2
