For those of us who can't be bothered watching the video, any chance of a quick summary?

I just bought the Optimus One myself and couldn't be happier. So of the default software may drive me to root my phone in the hopes of replacing it, but that's nothing to do with the phone itself.

So essentially it's a great phone offering the following advantages over the budget handsets:

3.2" HVGA screen
Multi Touch
Comes with 2gb micro sd card
Sat nav (n-drive) built in
2.2 standard - with upgrade path to 2.3
Comes wth satnav cradle

Nice phone and a good step up from the budget devices and at the moment the price point at DSE of $319.20 makes it an attractive buy.

Obviously no flash because it's an arm6 processor.

Good review thanks. I have had this phone now for a week and I love it.

Has anyone found a decent video player?

No, unfortunately.
But I have heard VLC is coming out with an android version early 2011
I'm currently using the standard one (LG GT540like the optimus one,  plays divx out of the box) and "yxplayer" but running rooted with an ad-blocker.

PS: can anybody tell me where to get the NZ NDrive maps? I deleted mine. (I formatted and partitioned my 2 gig card and put it in my eken M100 so I could put my 8gig card in my  gt540)

I just brought two of these for my wife and I

These are our first Android phones

Whenever I sent a pxt it just says "sending", this occurs on both VFNZ to VFNZ & 2degrees to 2 degress

What am I doing wrong ?

I take a photo, touch on share, touch on messaging, enter a number in the To field and touch on send MMS ! it then goes into a sending state without saying sent and never being received

When I bought my P500 there was a massive blue 2degrees flyer shrink wrapped to the box telling you what to do, pretty hard to miss.

D'oh ! - been so long since I since up my last handset for mms I forgot about the APN. I assume I can just setup the mms APN and not the Internet one if I want to MMS e.g. pxt but not use over priced paid Internet. The plan is to use free Wifi for Internet

No such flyer came with the handsets I got from Dicksmith Frown

BTW  I cannot find how I how can I delete all those mgs in a pending state without reseting the handset. I assume I can do a soft reset if I need to rather than a factory reset ?

Did you even try searching for them before posting here!? The 2degrees website lists all the settings and from the page I've linked will even send them to your phone! Also, they're listed in a number of threads in there already. Use the search function or go to the 2degrees forum - they're pinned at the top! Both these options are quicker that waiting for someone to post the settings in here - which isn't even what this thread is about (it's about a review of the phone).

Actually we did find a small 2 degrees card that has data roaming instructrions for the P500

Basically it appears they have a install app that sets it all up for people. Which to is a smart idea, Telco's can't expect Joe Public to manually configure APN settings Frown

BTW How does one get vibrate to work on the P500 ?

We turned it on [actually comes on by default if one changes to silent mode] but when we tested it by txt the phone didn't vibrate. We know it can as we get that slight vibrate when using the virtual keyboard.

I did look on the website the day I lost the card. With hindsight, I can't understand how I missed the settings page. Although off topic, the preceding couple of posts referenced the settings card, so it seemed a logical place to ask. Anyway, thx for the link. Worked, all good now.
