marmel: Mine is now at shipito. I am awaiting a request for them to verify my account so I can pay with paypal or credit card.

I think they run a bit of a scam to be honest. You can pay the initial deposit by paypal but when you go to have them ship something they claim you have to pay by wire transfer, for which they charge an extra $16US for 'receiving it' plus the $25NZ I would have to pay this end.

All of this despite me uploading three forms of picture ID including my police ID and two utility bills showing my address.

None of this is mentioned before you sign up either.

Hopefully they will sort it out and I can pay with paypal.

That's really odd, I've never had that problem :S  I've always been allowed to pay via paypal, hope they sort it out for you, because that's terrible!

I really hope they haven't changed owners or practices since I last used them in Feb

Got my shipito account sorted out after a bit of an email exchange. Customer service was actually pretty good, most emails responded to in under an hour (during business times) so can't complain there.

I have chosen DHL for shipping (1-3 days) as it was twice as fast as most other options and also the cheapest??

This means I will definately be paying gst due to the way DHL pre-clear customs but the purchase will still work out at a reasonable price overall.

I will post my total costs when I hear from DHL.

Let me know if you guys find any decent cases/covers. It's hard to find anything specific for the Transformer as it's so damn new. I'm not having much luck other than looking at Netbook covers/sleeves. The dimensions of the Transformer are very different to other tablets.

Australia release is 19th of May. I wonder if NZ will be lucky enough to see it here then?

Not a bad price considering. Aussie pricing is RRP of $A599 for the 16GB and $A799 for the 32GB including the docking station.

Yes I was thinking of doing a mini review.

I previously owned an ipad (since they were released last year) so I will have something to compare it to from a user experience point of view.

Available locally here - http://www.top-10.co.nz/asus-eee-pad-transformer-10-1-inch-16gb-tablet-android-3-0.html

Well it's parallel imported, but ok price and much easier. No mention of the dock though...

Daaaaaaam just wrote a review about 6 paragraphs long and went to sublit it and for some reason I had been logged out and have now lost it.

To summarise though:

Transformer lower quality product than ipad and software is nowhere near as polished.

A lot of apps are just scaled up and look awful or crash on a regular basis.

As far as Android tablets go it is right up there but in my opinion has a lot of catching up to do with the ipad.

This is especially true when you look at how polished the Android system is for mobile phones, the tablet version just isn't there yet.

I think this is a case of watch this space. As the software is tweaked and more apps are developed for the larger screens the gap between this and the ipad will close. Add in a dock and USB availibility and one day they may stand as equals.

Alas for now the Ipad reigns supreme.

Here is the official word from ASUS on the delays. It looks like another month of waiting for the production to ramp up:

Cheers, Matt.

Thanks, not too long to wait. I would get one purely for the sake of going online - web browsing and e-mails. Apps are a bonus but not really a deal breaker.

I found with my Android 2.2 tablet that 99.8% of activities were web browsing, Gmail and Angry Birds. The Gmail interface really held it back on 2.2 so that is main objective in getting a Honeycomb tablet. I will wait for the NZ release. I jumped too quickly with the last tablet I bought (Archos 101)
