I've just got myself a Note3 through Vodafone, got an excellent deal when signing up my new contract, so very happy with the service.

I'm loving it, although I think I've strained something in my hand while trying to use it one handed, my thumb is now sore. Hope that goes anyway sometime soon, it's not nice with my golf swing hahaha!

Will be watching this thread with interest to see what news / views people have with the phone.

First thing I'm keen on getting is a non-bulky case / protector, so will look into what people have here.

dakie: Hi Guys,

Anyone know where to get a case like this from in NZ? I have had no luck finding one. ORdered this from ebay however it did not turn up and the seller does not respond so don't want to waste more money with another trader. It has to be a hard case card holder (not a wallet type)   http://vod.ebay.com/vod/FetchOrderDetails?ViewPaymentStatus&transid=486366709023&itemid=360802751518

Link doesn't work.. it says only buyer/seller can view the link.

Free phone when signed up to Red Essentials $99/month, + extra 1GB data (so 2.5GB in total)

It wasn't through a store. My contract had expired so I was shopping around for options. I contacted VF directly and someone from the contract renewal team (can't remember the exact name) contacted me back and asked me what I was interested in, and they gave me that offer.

I couldn't say if everyone could get it though, maybe I was lucky :D

Just got myself one of the iLoome 8H screen covers... mighty fine piece of kit. Being a screen protector n00b, it took me a couple of goes to get it right, but it's on now and very nice. Only "barely-there", and can tell that it wouldn't interfere with any cases or covers. Highly recommend getting one, but you really have to be careful putting it on.. I don't think it was 100% perfect, but about 99.95% there.

If your Note 3 is parallel imported you might want to check for updates, I just got 4.4.2 OTA :)

Wonder how far away the New Zealand firmware is.

Stuck on the vodafone software here :( no updates showing at all. Is there a truely generic one to flash it with that isnt at the mercy of carriers to allow upgrades that I can flash and not trip that BS flag to allow them to decline warranty repairs?

I'll probably flash the BTU uk one when it's available on Sam firmware from what i have read on forums you can flash legitimate firmware without tripping Knox.

I just picked up a Note 3 from Telecom as my contract was up for renewal.

The Note seems quite good but Touchwiz + Samsung app bloat is really unappealing after having used stock Android for the past year.

Anyone here running Cyanogenmod on their Note 3?

I guess installing it will trip Knox? Is this really a concern for warranty purposes in NZ? I checked my Note 3 warranty card and as far as I can see, nothing states that installing custom firmware would be a problem. (Obviously I'm referring to warranty on hardware faults here.. ie. menu button stops working).

the main problem is losing that huge built in support for the SPen and its handwriting detection/functionality thats all thru touchwiz.

or did you purely buy the phone for its hardware spec and couldnt care less about the stylus?

what "annoying app"? assuming you mean "Shealth" and all those things - disabling them does not improve the sluggishness of the main touchwiz interface which i think is what Caldazar is referencing, given him comparing against stock android.

I haven't used the Note long enough yet to get attached to the Samsung SPen functions. I didn't realise it was so reliant on Touchwiz... that's a shame. I might hold off for a few weeks and see if I get hooked on SPen before I go custom.
