the main problem is losing that huge built in support for the SPen and its handwriting detection/functionality thats all thru touchwiz.

or did you purely buy the phone for its hardware spec and couldnt care less about the stylus?

I haven't used the Note long enough yet to get attached to the Samsung SPen functions. I didn't realise it was so reliant on Touchwiz... that's a shame. I might hold off for a few weeks and see if I get hooked on SPen before I go custom.

Well, it is and it isn't. All the fancy s-pen stuff like pen window or handwriting recognition, for example, requires touchwiz and the Samsung ROM.

However, use of the s-pen doesn't. Under CM at present the s-pen works perfectly well as a stylus, including pressure sensitivity etc - if you're just drawing pictures and scribbling notes it functions the same. There are apps that enable detection of removal/insertion of the pen, as well as auto launching an app like papyrus when the pen is removed.

So you wouldn't completely lose the s-pen, but you certainly would lose the more advanced use cases.

I got a Sview smart cover for mine before realizing that there was a different one that had wireless charging in it.

Has anyone tried one of those universal sticks to the battery qi charging recievers in the S view cover? The sview connects to a couple of contatcs on the back which is why I thought it did wireless charging too.

Also, is there a charging dock that will fit with the sview cover on and allow the cover to be opened and closed while docked? The cheapie I got barely fits and has a lip that stops the cover closing.

Ahh that's good to know. I had suspected that would be the case as I found the app for pen removal/insertion detection earlier. I also was testing MyScript Stylus beta as that appears to offer the keyboard / handwriting input alternative. I'm still looking into what apps I'd need to make a switch so for now I'm ok with stock Touchwiz.

Has anyone else had the official 4.4 OTA yet, or is it just me? Did everyone else buy this from a NZ telco or something?

4.4 is mostly under the hood stuff I think, after a few days I feel like performance is a bit smoother. Besides that there isn't much else. I now understand the change to white status icons in KK - to prevent colour clashes with the new transparent status bar, which is probably why Samsung followed suite here when they haven't historically.

This is their second though, I loaded it back in January when it first dropped.

I got the OTA update (I'm on 2 degrees with a parallel imported phone). It caused my phone to boot loop which I eventually discovered was due to the Wifi transceiver some how.
Reflashed with http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxy-note-3-lte-receives-n9005xxuenb3-android-4-4-2-kitkat-1436467 this and now working a treat.

I must say... holy &^%* Kitkat is fast. These phones are already fast as hell but Kitkat puts it on a whole new level.

anyone else got this .ive tested 2 other non samsung phones and they all work well doing below, but not my note3

my car has a parrot for call audio only, and a fusion bluetooth adapter for a2dp

the phone pairs to both fine

if i play music via A2DP, doesn't matter which player, switch out to the Dialer and call someone, it pauses the music,  but its not connecting via the parrot properly, parrot just beeps a couple times, no audio comes through, handset icon isnt active in the dialler which it normally would be

sometimes it will actually work, as long as i pause the music first before dialling, but that's sometimes intermittent as well

if no audio is playing or has played via a2dp since it paired, the parrot works 100% of the time.

doing the above works great on some HTC and LG phones ive tried, so thats kinda annoying!
