Yeah, i'm afraid you're out of luck for Snapper if you don't have a sim already. However, if anyone else is reading this and worried about losing their snapper-ness with a factory reset/phone swap, fear not. I had to do both recently, several times, and my S7 edge still works with the snapper terminals as it did before.

When Snapper/Semble parted ways they weren't too clear on what would happen (maybe they didn't know either), but it definitely transfers fine, if the new phone has NFC too.

OK, that's interesting. I already have a functional 2degrees Snapper touch2pay sim (nano-sim in a micro-sim holder) in my s5.

So, perhaps then... a new 2D sourced s7 would continue to work with Snapper touch2pay using my existing SIM.

The 2degrees shop guy didn't mention that s7's were already supported - sort of implied that there were two obstacles re the s7: i) no compatible sims being available and; ii) that support hadn't been extended to the s7 in any case.

Wouldn't hold my breath re my plan A with a foreign S7 working with it though as pretty sure - in the past at least - 2D-tweaked phone firmware was needed too.

The SM-G930F is on ANZ's list of supported phones, but the auto-fill option includes additional product code characters that all have 'NZ' in the syntax - suggesting that they are all versions issued by NZ telcos.

The product page of the vendor I am considering lists 'their' SM-G930F version as including NFC support, so the NFC hardware is (or ought to be) there.

ANZ (the mobile banking team) have advised that if I try GoMoney Wallet with a foreign-sourced S7 SM-G930F and it doesn't work, to advise them the full phone model code so they can "add it to their white list". So assuming the NFC chip is present and software enabled I'd hope it would work after that step.

So really just double checking by asking you guys before pulling the trigger - just in case there's some hardware/firmware/sim issue neither I nor my ANZ contact are aware of.

Cheers, thanks for sharing your experience and good to know flashing NZ Telcos' firmware is a fallback. That's the deal-maker for me I reckon. Thanks heaps for the link - most excellent that the Samsung firmwares for NZ telcos are so readily (and neatly) available for download nowadays. Certainly beats trawling through multiple threads to find em which was the case last time I dipped my toe in the flashing waters, several years and phones ago.

All good man, sammobile is generally pretty slow for downloading stuff - but they do update faster than others (generally). Updato has, in my experience, had much faster download speeds. Very similar interface, but be cautious to make sure you're downloading the right package for your model, as Updato seems to show other firmware for phones in that region (when I've looked at it).

Download speed wise - it didn't use to be a problem back in the S1 days, where firmware packages were in the hundred of MB, but now they're in the gigs it can be frustrating at times!

So a quick update on my query above re foreign-sourced S7 and compatibility with ANZ GoMoney / NFC payment functionality:

Good news re ANZ GoMoney Wallet, my Einfotech-sourced SM-G930F (which has an Optus app installed suggesting it might've been sourced from Aus) works fine out of the box to make contactless payments.
Alas on the 2degrees/Snapper front my smapper-supported existing SIM card perished so had to be replaced with one of their current SIMs, none of which support Snapper touch-2-pay. Fingers crossed 2D and Snapper start supporting this again in future.

You need to flash the firmware with Odin. There is a method to preserve your data when flashing a different firmware (flashing the CSC from your existing firmware while updating to the new one), but to get access to the beta this won't work. You will need to to a full flash and wipe first.

The latest firmware can be found here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G930F/BTU/

The Odin links and flashing instructions can be found on the page for each firmware.

Doing it properly it fairly safe and won't void anything. But as always user beware.
