Anyone else rooted their S8? I'm already getting frustrated not being able to toggle mobile data and airplane mode remotely. Specifically from my smartwatches, using Tasker. I'm resisting at the moment while I investigate the potential risks. I can live without Samsung/Android Pay but would like to retain fingerprint/Iris/face unlock. I remember there being noise about the fingerprint scanner not working after root on the S6, but it has worked properly ever since I took the plunge.
The only downside I have experienced is that any firmware update had to be done manually through Smart Switch on a PC.

I haven't rooted a phone in 5 years. I don't see me doing it with my S8.

Same here I've given up rooting since note 4...dont see the point no more, especially if you trip the knox you warranty becomes void

Haven't rooted since s4. Was full on with different mods and firmwares but got sick of it in the end. Root free with s6 and now s8

I don't believe this to be the case unless rooting has directly led to the failure. Plenty of evidence to support this including getting the camera module replaced due too faulty hardware under warranty on my rooted HTC One M7.
I see this phone has an "OEM Unlock" toggle under developer options. This has a major part to play in being able to root and add a custom recovery. But in addition, my research has uncovered that it also increases protection against an OTA update bricking your phone. The downside is your phone is less secure because the bootloader can be accessed without a pin code.
As previously stated, if Google allowed external access to Airplane and Data, be-it through a setting in developer options that most people wouldn't even discover, I wouldn't need to root my phones. I haven't installed a custom recovery or rom on my S6, I just needed access to a couple of system functions using shell commands that aren't attainable without root.

I will probably live with it being unrooted for a month or so while Samsung provide updates through the beta testing phase (anyone who buys a phone on release is a beta tester) however experience with my S6 has taught me I will get impatient at some stage.

I wouldn't dare root a phone. Way above my pay grade - would end up with a brick!

Bricking when rooting hasn't been an issue for years. In saying that, this will be the first Android I won't be rooting. Only would root for ad blocking. But can do that without root now.

Plus 2 year warranty is worth having if you're selling in a year.

Putting up shelves is beyond my pay grade. Playing with the electronics of a phone? No chance! Besides, it works brilliantly as is, why mess with it?

I didn't want to cover up the phone, but i heard does not even like small drops :( ....i find the cover good as the black tint goes well with the phone

Had my first wobble.

Watching video and phone display went black. No response from phone. Restarted and display was hideous, and completely unresponsive to slider inputs for colour etc. Text was a horrible shade of blue and sliders barely visible.

Forced a restart and screen back to normal but the black infinity wallpaper I had has vanished.
