richms: I got a Sview smart cover for mine before realizing that there was a different one that had wireless charging in it.

Has anyone tried one of those universal sticks to the battery qi charging recievers in the S view cover? The sview connects to a couple of contatcs on the back which is why I thought it did wireless charging too.

Also, is there a charging dock that will fit with the sview cover on and allow the cover to be opened and closed while docked? The cheapie I got barely fits and has a lip that stops the cover closing.

I have the Note3 SView cover with wireless charging, it fits in the Samsung Note 2 Multimedia dock (Smart Dock), and you can (just) open and close the cover when docked. That cover is pretty fat ... the rear camera is indented about as far as it stuck out with the standard case. I also have a Note 2 with the stick on pad, and it works ...

I like the official Samsung charging pads (the bit you plug into the power) the best, it works well in my car as its dished shape means the phone doesn't slide off when cornering ...

i can confirm that updating to other country's firmware through Odin does not trip knox counter. Did my wife's to the German's dbt nb7 rom.

All is well, knox at 0x0 and she's rocking 4.4.2 ...

what did you use to root the device with before you flashed the new ROM? ive been tempted to do the same given Telecom has still not pushed their version of 4.4.2 out :/ ...

thats cool - so you just used the default flash mode on the Note3, and connected to Odin with USB cable? did you set any special PIT file for this? did it full-wipe the device? is there a step-by-step you were using that you could point me to? im just trying to understand how you did it in a way that i can replicate without tripping knox.

Nothing needed doing except ticking the 'phone boot loader update' for those coming from 4.3.

That was a dirty load on my wife's phone so everything was intact. I used this rom. I also noted there is a nb4 from Voda UK which is apparently a Voda Spanish rom. Take your pick, as most modems are still NB1...

Have a read here and download odin from the link. The version in their link may not be right for you so check first.

I think the ext SD issues were with AOSP not Samsung Firmware, certainly I have no problems on the S4.

Its actually quite a painless exercise although a bit of a worry just make sure you follow the instructions and you will be fine.

You won't trip Knox unless you root the device and no need to to do a wipe, none of your data should be affected either.

nearly forgot but if you don't have the drivers setup download Kies as that has them but make sure Kies is not running when using Odin.

SD cards are a big factor in the way I use my devices, so I've done some homework on this one.

Google changed the code way back in Honeycomb, but Honeycomb was never open-sourced, & in Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, the OEMs just altered what Google had implemented. Because Nexus devices post-Nexus One never had SD slots, this was never really an issue before.

Essentially, as of 4.4, only system apps (In /system/app or /system/priv-app) or signed Google apps have the ability to write to external SD cards outside of their own dedicated app folder. e.g. you download a game, the game is huge, the game chucks a bunch of data on the SD card, the game can only write to the one folder the OS allows it to create. Okay, cool, security feature - So what's the problem?

This becomes an issue as soon as you involve file explorers, which, again, are essential for my use-case. Android has what I believe to the best file explorers of any current OS, since iOS only has jailbreak options, Windows Phone even less in that department, the Blackberry 10 file explorer is super basic, and the desktop OS's are a bit entrenched in legacy usage - the likes of ES File Explorer and Solid Explorer are particularly stellar & some of my favourite apps on any platform.

As of 4.4, they can't create new folders on the SD card. This is a bit of a pain if one downloads, for example, demos that musician friends have shared, because you can't put them in their own tidy folder within whatever media hierarchy you prefer.

Thankfully (Sort of), Samsung include their own file explorer app. Being a system app, the restrictions don't apply. It's a bit naff, really, only allowing for the extraction of .zip files rather than browsing, doesn't support .rar, UI is a pain (Better on the S5), et cetera. But it's the only option for managing the external SD's file structure.

Now, it's not yet known whether other OEMs that utilise SD slots - like Sony or HTC - have opted to stick with Google's code for these permissions. I'm hoping they haven't, because it kills the third party file explorer market by requiring users to use two separate apps to accomplish tasks a single app could in the past. Janky & confusing & yet another reason why I don't like vanilla Android.

It can be fixed with root, naturally - but we were just getting to the point where more & more features that previously required root can be accomplished without it, so this is a step backwards in my opinion.

for some reason my wifi speed seems to be slow after the update and wifi turns off when the screen turns off.. and the option to keep wifi always on is turned on.. any ideas

edit..
cleared cache and seems to be working fine now.. gotta say it feels snappier

I found the same on the S4, usually its not that noticeable, AOSP roms are even quicker again but thats another story
