I noticed 2degrees have a branded Google display shelf with signage. No Pixel just the usual Google home things. 2D is a logical home for the Pixel. The big G raised my future hopes momentarily.

Am I emotionally ready to be hurt again? Apparently yes....

I have been quietly hoping 2D would be part of a 2022 Pixel expansion but realistically... I'll be looking to import a Nothing 1 or a Pixel from one of the usual sources, 5G and VoLTE issues be dammed.

Nice to see 2D getting more Nest / Home stuff though, its a bit more relevant than a Huawei watch or a random bluetooth speaker.

If you don't mind me asking; what is you usual source for a Pixel phone?

I want to get a 6A, but $450US becomes $1200NZ after shipping, GST and fees from any place I have found that will ship to New Zealand

As I don't live in a 5G area, I am not concerned about lack of 5G support.

The issue is VoLTE, unless you also don't care about making or receiving phone calls...

Has any operator made any public announcements when they will be shutting down their 3G services?  I had heard, anecdotally, that in some rural area, the towers that extend service have no 3G capability so if you're without VoLTE then you can't make a voice call but you can make a VoIP call if you really need to.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I'm still puzzled by Google's complete and utter dismissal of the NZ market, especially when Pixel's are literally the same as the Australian market version. They used to sell phones and their accessories here in the Nexus 5 days but something happened and they just walked away, no updates on why or if they will ever return.

And yes, the market in NZ is small, bit it won't ever grow if they don't sell them here, and what's the big deal with supplying them from Australia? We've offered asylum/residency to some of their senior managers.. but yet.. nothing.

Rant over. For another year.

Totally agree, I went through all the Nexus' until the Pixel but then ended up on the OnePlus path and haven't looked back.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I've got a 6 (non-pro) at the moment, really like the phone but its heavy in your pocket. The updates re what I'm on Pixel for. I've heard good things about OnePlus, will check them out when the Pixel hits it's "no more update for your old crappy phone boyo" date in a couple of years.

According to some people I know Spark were interested in selling the Pixel phones but they need to Google to provide 10 units for testing and Google didn't want to.

Still doesn't answer the question why Google is not interested in the New Zealand market. How much would it cost to supply 10 phones?

lmao, imagine if that was the actual reason.

They would absolutely kill it if they sold the phones here, I was a huge nexus fan and was keen to stay in the Google lineup but simply cannot while VoLTE remains an issue.

There is a 3rd party seller, selling the Pixel 6a on The Market.

They have 10% off this weekend, and at ~$920, I am very tempted. I however don't 'need' to upgrade as my Pixel 3a is still working well (as well as a second 3a that is having screen issues), and I will have to mourn the loss of a headphone jack and my back panel fingerprint reader.

Not having 5G or VoLTE still doesn't feel like a deal breaker - the number of times I am 'rural' is limited

Hey there, my history goes like this...

2XL purchased from Dick Smith for a hefty price (I had the cash at the time). Their service for an issue is bad. Would not recommend.

4XL purchased from the Google Store in Aus and sent to a cousin. A bit of family effort needed but worth it overall. Was NZ$1700 or something once all done including GST at Customs.

4a5G purchased from mighty ape, no complaints at all and okay pricing after the initial high prices settled a bit.

You'll start to have battery issues soon so that is a reason to upgrade unless you just replace the battery.

I got the battery replaced on my P2, only about $120. Works like new darn it. At leat I can wait for the P7 now.

So replacing a  battery is a very minor thing to do if your phone is otherwise running well.
