Wow, yea. Looks like USPS is being stricter with batteries. Just had my friend take the Pixel 8a in the USA to ship it to me and USPS wouldn't ship it via Priority International because of the battery.

Plan was to return and rebuy from Amazon and have it shipped to my NZ address, which was an option 2 weeks ago. But not it's not, this is shipped from Amazon too and not a third party..

Hi all

My mate is in Australia right now. He got me a Google Pixel 8 Pro 128GB in bay with the genuine google case in bay and screen protector.

My wife decided that is the wrong colour. Is anyone keen on buying it or I will get him to return it before he leaves

I think is was $1200 AUD. So would sell for that

PM if you are keen.

Ordered on Mighty Ape the Pixel 8A. Bit more money than importing, but better than trying to figure out how to ship batteries and also not get hit by GST.

When are we likely to see some 20% off deals? I thought maybe Matariki but thats very close to end of financial year.....

I think if I bought a small screen pixel I would regret it, but at same time spending $1400 is a LOT of money for a phone, not sure how people justify a $2400 especially when they use to only last 3 years and apple only garuntees 5yrs (but I think they still release OS for much older phones).

For me the Win10 phones were the best of the 3, required far less resources (similar to IOS now) and wasnt a scattered mess and the phones were cheap.

I guess some people who have the single device can justify $2400 by not needing a notebook, but to me I dont live in a world where you can get away with that.

Which makes the Pixel Pro the option. But not at $1400, when samsung a55 delivers a similar experience for $600. Phone warehouse has it for $1350

So I need to somehow get the Pixel Pro dirt cheap, ie $1100-1200

Google often does deals on the Pixel 8 in the US, keep an eye out. Might take a week, might take a month, but they do good sales. Amazon seem to be able to ship anything anywhere fairly cheaply.

I'd suggest someone try to load up an order on Amazon.com for a phone and see if it will ship to NZ. Because I'm getting this:

Thanks mate, Im just anxious as my galaxy screen died and took everything with it, I was just on the cusp of buying a new phone, now Im in a position of NEED to buy. But Im a frugal buyer.

If I didnt have health issues, Id jump on the IP15 Pro Max OR the P8 Pro and not worry about sale prices. The OP 12R at $800 seems a good buy. but Im a bit paranoid post the chinese phone data concerns, although I believe OP Global to not have any such inbuilt issues, however the Galaxy a55 6.6" screen and reasonable camera for $600 seems a better deal, however neither employ the Google Titan chip security measures that Im aware of.

Ive been doing some reading to understand Iphone ai, the author states by limiting it to the 15 Pro Max it does sound like a shove to upsell, whic the marketing chief denies, saying older chips just wouldnt be fast enough, but imo the 13 onward would be fine. Either way I dont see their ai implementation as that big a deal vs using ai standalone.....

Im going to do some reading on the Pixel Titan chips and their security, I have a general idea but its use of parsing data via chip stored encryption sounds intriguing.

Suggest you buy the A55 and be done with it. Probably cheaper at Matariki. It's a solid, quality phone. I don't think security chips matter at all. Maybe don't keep industrial espionage secrets or nuclear launch codes on the phone.

The 23% off deal has ended, the pricing I see is now circa $1600nzd via amazon, which is $200 more than local. Have you spotted another deal?

The pixel range isn't sold in NZ. It's a small market. Buy it in Australia if you like, use the reshipper I mentioned previously, AUSFF. You will pay Au and NZ GST though. USA is a better bet generally.

Oh darn, so if it breaks under warranty I gotta send it back?

Sorry I missed the reshipper you mentioned. I thought NZ post were providing a reshipper service for a period there...

So no point buying overseas if GST is added, $1099 + 15% +import duty?

Nope, no point paying GST twice. You should probably start a new thread about phone selection.

Timmay I really want a Pixel Pro :-). I see it as the next best option behind the IP Pro Max. Im just trying to find a way to make it work for me given the 9 might be out in Oct, but I need a phone now. Conundrum.

Does google tend to stick strictly to its 3 years of updates, or has it provided passed this previously?

I really wish there was a Pixel 8a Pro, ie just the bigger screen.

Which has me considering the 7 Pro, but its Oct 22 release leaves very little for OS updates, despite the 8 Pro not being a lot different.

Is October pretty consistant for their release dates?

I bought mine from parallel imported as my previous phone also broke long before my trip to Aus. When I saw In Aus however would only have saved 100-200 after converting.
