Sounds like the New Year has brought in various phone fails. My S3 just died yesterday. Completely dead - nada.

It directed us home for an hour or so. Some time later I took it out of my pocket and it was a brick.... Grrrr.

Now my wife can't find the receipt but JBHifi reckon they can help... I'm lost now and none of my old phone will take the sim :(

When you say brick, what exactly is it doing? Not turning on, can't get past the boot logo etc.

When you say brick, what exactly is it doing? Not turning on, can't get past the boot logo etc.

Literally nothing. At first I thought my battery had died so I put a spare in. Nothing again. So I thought maybe that was flat too so I tried the charger. Nothing. Just in case, I tried the usb from the pc & thought (hoped) maybe kies might kick start it. Nothing. Have also tried the home-volume up-power reset to no effect.

There are no lights, no beeps. :(

Sounds like what happened to mine. I took mine back to the store where purchased and it's been sent off for repair. Was told it will be a 3 - 4 week wait.

It was the Thursday before Christmas when I took it back to Noel Leeming, so Christmas/New Year delays pushing it to 3 - 4 weeks.

Pop down to a 2degrees store and ask for a micro sim adapter - they gave one to me for free which has allowed me to put my sim into another phone. Didn't check to see if I was a 2degrees customer either.

Thanks for the info. Don't know how I'll cope for 3 to 4 weeks, but thanks for the sim card adapter hint so I can at least be contactable (on my old Nokia :()

My S3 died over the holidays too. It started rebooting and freezing just after I upgraded to Jellybean so I thought it ws related to that. I see now that it looks like the hardware fault that others have talked about happening at the 6 month mark after purchase. Sent it back to Digital Mobile for repair.

My phone would start as far as the first statup screen showing the model number but did not get asfar as the animation. I could not start it in recovery mode but it would go into download mode. It had the published unmodified version of the software on it. It died while on the charger. I used it to surf the web but when I came back to it half an hour later it ws showing the startup screen and wouldn't do anything.

I suggest to others that when their phones start freezing and rebooting, to do their backups while they can.

Samsung are releasing an update for the S3 in relation to the sudden death of some handsets, seems to be a software issue from what I read.

Samsung Benelux reported to Tweakers.net that Samsung is busy to fix the ?sudden death? problem of the Galaxy S III. Many Galaxy S III devices stopped working because of a firmware bug. Samsung says they want to bring an update as soon as possible. Samsung even reported to tweakers about the HMTL code to reset Galaxy S III devices. This way is no longer possible.

The thread at XDA suggests that many are getting new mother boards. I think mine has a new mobo but can't confirm until i get it back.

yes I am aware of that, was only posting what samfirmware had posted, take out of it what you want.

JBHifi Manukau were great in handling my dead S3 - said it would be away for about 2 weeks. They told me they handed seen many problems...yet,maybe?

Called Noel Leeming and they said they expected any phones put in for repairs before Christmas to be ready mid Jan. Getting a call back tomorrow to confirm.

I bought a new card a few weeks back and it started playing up just recently. Have formatted it, but still unmounts and re-mounts itself periodically.

Sounds like I might need to send it back.

I have a 32gb mSD I bought from mymemory.co.uk and just in last week its started doing many mount and dismounts and varied messages about sd has unsupported files and also other error messages.

Hope the card is not failing!

What brand of card is it?

Finally got to a telecom shop today, put it in and will see what happens. Hope to have a new or fixed device in 7 - 10 days apparently.

Back to the trusty SGS1 untill the SGS3 is back, quite nice running jellybean on it.

Back to some good news... (but I'm quietly anticipating my S3 dying in the near future)

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but tap and holding the the toggles in the notification drawer takes you directly to the relevant settings screen. Not sure when this appeared, but I think it was JB.
