just been reading about these failures. Knowing my luck mine will also die. Yesterday mine was very slow and not responsive and when I tried to take a photo it froze up. Just turned off then on again and it came on and still very slow. So I powered down completely removed battery then after a moment turned back on. So far so good. Starting to think waste of money buying a high end phone that you want to last a few years. Seems may be better to buy a cheap chinese throw away phone

yep, those are the warning signs of the death throws. Time for that backup that didn't seem so important last week.

I see Samsung have released new updates one for eynox threat by way of new kernal and a new bootloader to fix the sudden death.
Not sure when this will be released by telco's but for those that are rooted the fixes are available on XDA, the new bootloader needs to be flashed through Odin.

Must say I'm not too happy about all this its a complete mess and obviously hasn't been picked up by the media but big fail to Samsung after such good product.

The suspense is killing me! Every time my phone hiccups or does something strange I think "Is this it?"

I've backed everything up, dug out the receipt and am waiting for the inevitable.

It's like sitting in the Dentists waiting room, the old raisins twitching like a bunnies nose!

I had a call from Noel Leeming and was told my phone was in. Picked it up and now setting it up. Completely new mainboard and reflashed to 4.1.1.

Noticed a new small scratch on the screen, not a big deal, but you'd think they'd be a little bit more careful.

Anyway, glad to have the phone back in such a timely manner.

Not confirmed.. unless you have some announcement from Samsung themselves about this?

From what I've read, all the hype on XDA is just speculation that it has been fixed.

how do you send texts to more than 10 people? Is this a limitation of S3? It keeps saying this "10 contacts available only" when I try and add more contacts to a given group.

Ahh I see. Thanks, a bit strange that a vanilla S3 doesn't allow you to do that.

Yes thanks for the links but I have done some reading myself and have, as yet, to flash new bootloader due to the confusion as to what it is meant to do.

I posted what I found on sammobile due to people that have sudden death phones but as with all Android issues you need to do your own research.

After a lot of reading I'm going with CT's and thinking it may be a work around for Samsung so they void future warranty issues, even if this is incorrect and my phones fails due to not updating bootloader it is still a known issue that should be covered by warranty if not the CGA.

Whatever it is everyone needs to decide for themselves what they do but if they push a new update with bootloader tgo those not rooted then thats ok as they will be covered either way.

Has anyone successfully flashed the XXELLA bootloader which supposedly prevents the sudden death issue?

Yep, pretty much the conclusion I came to.

Samsung *have* said they have a patch to fix it, and I believe it will be released after the 4.1.2 roll out has been completed.
