Glad I dropped mine for a Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Samsung are losing their way

Good luck with that..

One of the most disappointing cameras for one of the best? Think I'll be OK.

My Find N3 Fold will continue to be my daily phone.

I'm really disappointed on two deals on this phone. If you use PriceSpy.co.nz

=========
PB Tech
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G Dual SIM Smartphone - 12GB+256GB - Titanium
$2,193.99 (Pricespy shows wrong price. It's actually 2,254.99 with GST, plus %1 surcharge for credit card)

Harvey Norman
Harvey Norman
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G 256GB Smartphone - Titanium Black (One NZ/
$2,447.00

JB Hi-Fi
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G 256GB (Titanium Black)
$2,449.00
=========

While PBTech make it clear there's no phone charger, on these phone which cost over $2,200, but Harvey Nornam only implies it by showing "the perfect bundle" including a charger.

Note that PBTech on Pricespy is a little deceptive, because it's showing up without GST. Not sure if that's a problem with PBTech or Pricespy. That seems coomon with PBTech, so I'm not sure if that's by PBTech design, or a happy coincidence.

Now to Harvey Norman, even though it's advertised as part of its "Birthday sale", according to Pricespy, it's only $2 cheaper than the most expensive one.

They also mention a plan to "save" $400", but the terms and condition sound pretty brutal.

First the terms on the graphic is 7 points on a 1,500 pixel wide image, but if you inspect the javascript and the image element, it's scaled to 1111 pixels at 100% zoom, so that's 5 points. Here's the actual snapshot at no magnification.

Clicking the plan link on the Harvey Norman's website went to a webpage
  • didn't mention "saving $400"
  • automatically select the most expensive plan
  • clicking on a plan took you to a form, without details, that you had to fill out so they could get your details, and then send you the terms and condition
The One.nz website was just as confusing, which involves drilling down
  • one drop on main page
  • picking the correct model on the next
  • click "terms and condition" drop down.
  • Javascript then disables edit...copy.
I had to look at the source, a deep dig into the web page, to be able to get this text

"Available until 31 July 2024 or while stocks last when you purchase the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra interest free on a $65 or above Pay Monthly plan with 24 or 36 month term and $99 deposit. Saving evenly spread over the agreed interest free term. Total monthly cost is phone repayment cost plus plan cost. Balance of phone cost must be repaid if you exit, transfer or trade down your plan before your interest free term expires, and any remaining discount will be lost. Eligibility criteria and terms apply, see interest free terms and mobile terms"

Yeah, shady.

Yeah, the fine print is full of traps. The "save $xxx" is spread across the phone plan monthly. So $400 saving is actually $11 per month off your interest free payments for 36 months. Often the discount is better with higher priced plans. If you pay it off early, you lose the discount.

BTW, If you're interested in an S24 Ultra, I have mine for sale (in the offers and wanted section). Still in perfect condition and have the receipt for warranty.

How is everyone's battery after recent updates? I seem to be draining much faster than previously... But with no change in settings or usage...

No, this is not another post about new software or security patch release for the S24 series but about the upcoming new battery icon in One UI 7.0 update.

Looking forward to it if true:

https://www.sammyfans.com/2024/07/25/one-ui-7-could-bring-new-battery-indicator/#:~:text=However%2C%20the%20One%20UI%207,that%20work%20is%20still%20left

Having the percentage showing inside the battery icon is what I'd prefer, looks cleaner and creates more space in the status bar to fit something else, not to mention it makes sense to be within the battery.

Back in the old custom ROM flashing days, I'd always look for custom ROMs that had percentage inside the battery icon or simply just flash to change to these types of battery icons.

The only thing I noticed was my Watch6 discharged to 60% in 24 hours instead of the usual 80%.

No change with my S24U battery discharge level.

Rebooted my S24U and my Watch6 and Watch battery usage is back to where it usually is.

Does anyone have an issue with older Bluetooth devices? I've got a old Domain car stereo, probably with Bluetooth ver. 2.1. My S24 Ultra keeps either stuttering every few seconds, or doesn't connect to Audio at all, just to the phone.

Never had this with any of my previous mobiles.

If anyone's on the lookout for a useful case, I got this Pinbutton Pitaka case for my S24U.  Really cool concept with 3 physical NFC buttons that can be configured in the Modes and Routines app to do....well pretty much anything.  Only issue was they came unwriteable from the factory so I had to activate them with a 3rd party app configuration, but otherwise all good now.  One button is starts Sleep mode which has about 20 actions it automates.  Another turns Hotspot on, and the other is yet to find a use case but I'll invent one soon.  Helps if you already have a few Pitaka products like the Magmount charger etc.

@johny007g Is it One UI 6.1.1? Not to be confused with One UI 6.1
