The TF101G has been released overseas (Transformer 1 with 3g), but I cannot find anywhere locally to buy, or in fact overseas to buy online.

Customs intercepts all inbound packages, they charge you their fee ($40 ish, I forget) plus 15% GST. That'd come to around $100, give or take, for a Transformer worth US$370.

Good deals on transformers come up from time to time, typically right after I buy something.

I bought the 16GB Transformer for $649 from Noel Leeming together with some headphones that were valued at $79 (well that's what they waid!). They were actually selling the Toshiba for $649 and the Transformer for $699 but I got them to price match.

I have a Xoom so this was for my wife. I think she wanted an iPad2 at first but she seems to be converted now. Her needs are basic - surf the net, read email and make VoIP calls to a landline with a BT headset. I do that using Fring linked to a SIP account (in this case it's voipcheap.com).

She does the same process on her iPhone but for some reason I could never get the BT headset to work with Fring so it was pretty nice to have that working for Transformer.

I have played with it and it has some apps and functions over the Xoom. The network browser is kind of cool and being able to play music off my server with no setup is handy. I like the stock keyboard which has the numeric keys on the main display.

So we are all reasonably happy.

As for Internet access, I picked up a cheap Android phone from Trademe for $100 (Vodafone 858) and just stick the SIM card from my 2D USB modem in the phone and use it as a portable wifi hotspot. This compares favourably with the $199 cost of the Telecom mifi device or the equivalent Vodafone unit.

True, but I would guess the battery life is not comparable. But hey you can use it for a lot of other things as well so fair enough. I have an Ideos 8150 I just use for GPS tracking my runs, but could use as a hotspot as well.

I hear talk of an Asus Transformer TF201 to be released on November 7 with Nvidia Tegra 3 Chip. Does anyone here have any more information? Obviously it will take a lot longer to get to NZ. How far behind were we for the original?

Got my Asus eee pad Transformer TF101 32GB today from Bond and Bond for $899. I think it's pretty sweet.

Also got a Case Logic 10" neoprene sleeve that fits the Transformer and keyboard. I am still thinking of getting the official Asus cover for just the tablet: http://www.tastech.co.nz/product_info.php?products_id=363473 but not sure if I actually need it.

Also wondering about a screen protector. Anyone else got one? If so which one is better, the matte or the gloss?

No keyboard so if you got the 32GB version with keyboard for what you said, then that is a good deal. I have no idea how much the keyboard is by itself but I would think $150 or so.

Tell the truth I (well my wife) has only had her Transformer for about a month. And while her needs are basic (surfing, youtube, email, VoIP, and the occasional game) we haven't found anything to tax the dual core so it's hard to see a quad core would help much.

Hard core gamers might find it more useful.

I would love to upgrade to ICS though.
