I got one of these and love it. I was also balking at the idea of the cost of a decent cover but sense won over. I love being able to take calls through the cover.

Dingbatt: Has anyone shelled out for the OEM Samsung LED cover? Despite my phone retailing for $1300 I baulk at spending 100 bucks on a cover. I like the concept and the integration with the phone, but the covers themselves look uninspiring and seem to add quite a bit of bulk the phone, making it less pocketable.

I went with the Clear View Cover too. Better than the LED cover imo. And $20 cheaper. Plus it has that stand function, which I've actually been using a lot. Definitely adds noticeable bulk, but it looks pretty slick. Only gripe is that the bixby button doesn't function with the cover closed. Have remapped button to flashlight, but have to open cover first.

1. Bixby is not good (not as good as google assistant)

2. Fingerprint scanner is at odd place (for right handed)

3. battery

Any owner here, what are your reviews on that ???

1. Bixby will get better, i think you can still use google assistant anyway. Bixby camera is laughable.

2. Anyone in their right mind will have a case on this phone, at which point finding the fingerprint reader without looking is a doddle. I never have any problem. Interesting note, the camera will actually alert you if it's having trouble focusing, telling you to clean the lense. Nice feature.

3. Battery is fine, I get at least a full days use out of it, and the past couple of days I've had little usage and havent charged it once. I don't do a lot of actual calltime so someone else can respond to that.

I love it. I have upgraded from a OnePlus One simply because the battery was dying. I've since manually replaced the battery and it's going strong again lol.

My 64GB SD card currently has Google Play music, Youtube offline video and Pocketcast podcasts on it. If I take the existing card and copy everything across to the new card, will it work when placed in the phone, or will digital copy protection cut in on the new card (even though it has the same data and is going into the same phone)?

Straight transfer worked ok for me..

All my music was there when I went to download it again.. so it's probably account based.. once you log in it scans and adds it I guess..

You just jogged my memory on that one.

Frequently at work ill have my phone back down leaning up against a stack of junk. now i can use my index finger to unlock it without having to swipe (Which would move my phone off the stack)
Now i lose that functionality...

I use my watch for that.. hate the placement of the fingerprint scanner..

My green cents worth for KillerHulk's questions;

1. Bixby only functioning fully in Korea at the moment. Partially in the US. And on a minor way everywhere else. I have used BxAction App and remapped the button to Google Assistant.
2. I use face recognition and trusted devices as my main unlock methods. I know face unlock has been proven to be less secure but it operates much faster than the Iris scan. I pretty much always have my smartwatch on so it's the primary trusted device. I do use the fingerprint scanner occasionally for sign-in verification in apps, and with a cover on have no trouble locating it. As I am right handed, my index finger sits naturally close to the scanner.
3. The battery life seems very similar to my S6. So not fantastic, but not terrible either.

My second eBay cover arrived today. It is a full wallet type one so S8 now has all round protection. Total spent on covers so far $15.

1) Don't use Bixby. Don't even notice that the button is there TBH. Don't use Google Assistant much either other than for hands free dialling via BT headset in the car

2) With a cover (I have an Otterbox one and a Samsung one with the LED's on the front) the cutout more or less directs your finger every time

3) Lasts forever in my S8+: I have had 48 hours out of it before now (switched off overnight when it need not be on anyway)

3) I get up at 4.30am take it off the charge, by 2pm I still have over 50% with a couple hours of screen time (that is with gps on, wifi, everything syncing). I plug it in to a car charger (quick charge 3) on the drive home (30 - 40 minutes) and by time i get home I have over 90%

Good stuff. I use my 8plus until it's completely flat . Current charge is at 31 hours with 5hours 55 mins screen time. 11%left at approx 2 hours.

Where did you get your DBrand backing from?

I went from Spark -> Skinny -> Skinny Direct with Skinny Direct being the best value for money in my scenario (I'm on the $30 per month one) with the phone I'd throw on my ASB Low Rate which has 6 months interest free on purchases over a grand. It really comes down to whether you want all the bells and whistles or just something basic at a rock bottom price.

in the samsung galaxy s8 club now.. bought one for my wifey from pbtech yesterday.

frankly, IMO good looking phone.
