Abusername: [b] Pixel 8 pro, Mous MagSafe case while charging [b]
If my phone is charging and while it is in its case, (a mous MagSafe case), then there is a weird static electricity feel if i touch the metal of the camera. It feels like a weird texture but it's something electric. Unplug the charger and it stops, take it out of its case and it stops. I checked with other people so it's not just me. Any ideas.
Edit. Checked with official Google case and same weird electric thing
gzt: Pixel 8 - $1069 at Parallel Imported
Its good, but not long ago they were on sale for circa $879.
Now prices on the 8a has been pushed back up from $740 to $800.
Im figuring they are awaiting the 9s next month and then will drop the 8s,
But the 9 still has the same exynos modem supposedly the issue behind heat and spotty reception, vs the qualcomm boards modem (I forget the model).
The 8 pro is $1299, thats not bad, but given how quickly the 7 pro dropped off in price I wonder if the 9Pro XL will do the same.
all very similar camera gear since the 7 though. slight improvements. I think if I had a 7 or 8 Id be waiting for when Pixel changes SoC from samsung/Tensor.

These concerns gave me pause and made me hold back purchasing one, until I got a refurbished model I could return if it did not meet my needs. I still have the refurbished model - I think these concerns are overstated - I've not had any reception issues - and I live in the wop wops. Indeed, reception is substantially betterthen my previous phone (Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC running lineageos). I've also not noticed the phone getting very hot - again its a lot cooler then my previous phone when doing navigation - which seemed to be the heaviest thing I do (I'm running GrapheneOS though, so I'm not using the AI or particularly stressing the phone).
I find Pixel 8 reception fine, but I don't really leave Wellington much. What I find is it gets hot easily, particularly during heavy use or fast charging, much moreso than my wifes older Samsung S22. The S22 can fast charge and stay at about the usual temperature, whereas the Pixel 8 gets up to 38 degrees easily. My next phone will have a Qualcomm chipset, likely locally purchased and properly network supported. I also won't pre-order a phone or buy it on launch in future, I'll leave it 2-4 months and pay 25 - 40% less.

However, I noticed the Pixel 7 with the same sensor in the p8 and 9, $670, thats not the a, but the P7. altough the p7 pro was at $750 for a long time, I just dont like curved edged screens.
The one plus nord 4 specs out well, but who knows what price it will land at here.
So we have the p9 and the apple phones next month to possibly manipulate prices. So Im hanging in there, I just want to see if the p8 shifts a lot after the p9 release, but also curious just to see what p9 pricing will be in NZ likely end of month earliest.
Prices released for the Pro and Pro XL. $999 and $1199US, whoah. For minor updates the price hike, when the s24 ultra SD 8 Gen 3 version can be had for $1500NZD now.
So Id imagine the Pixel 9 will be $900usd or $1500nzd.
Given the regular P7 with the same cameras is selling fof $670nzd, I think if you just need a good main camera phone the p7 could be a great buy, but Im hoping the regular P8 may drop to $800 on release of the P9. But how fast it may drop I dont know, I think the 7 years original support would be worth the $130 over the P7?

Jvipers2: especially if they are brining it officially into NZ.
Do you think that is at all likely?
If they officially open the 9 store on the 13th after the sales seminar, Id have thought retailers should be fairly quick to react?
I nearly pulled the trigger on the 7 for $670 this morning, until I read its only 3 years software updates and 2 years security. I thought it was the same as samsung and oneplus ie 4 years updates and extra year of security patches.
Speaking of Xiaomi, whilst id love the 14 ultra with its 1" sensor with the camera grip package, $2k is well out of my price range. But the 13T is around $700, it has a 144hz near QHD+ with much higher 446ppi amoled that does HDR10+ but also Dolby Vision, 1200nits/2600nits peak. It is bigger at 6.7" vs the 6.3" of the Pixel 7, but I like a big screen but provided I can stretch the keyboard out I can work with a 6.1" even. So its a lovely screen. Similar sized 1.3" sensor with Leica colour tech. You also get a 2x optical zoom, 15mm wide lens. Both phones ip68 which I really like. 5.4BT vs 5.2 on the Pixel. Both SoCs score a very similar antutu v9. The xiaomi is a year younger, likely to see a 14T in september.
It prob comes down to the screen for me, 144vs90mhz on the older Pixel. Nicer ppi and and brightness etc, Bigger screen better for Video etc.
So I guess we will see after this upcoming Pixel seminar. New watch and buds I think as well in it.
If the OP 12 with its insane thermal tech and high end SD innards dropped to $1k I would snap that up without looking $1200 is too close to the S24 Ultra at $1500. I think this is where Pixel could start to lose customers too with the Pixel 9 Pro XL costing near $2000Nzd with near half the outright power od SD 8 Gen 3. 750 GPU. Putting ai to the side.
Perhaps they are over playing the value for money game in the upper middle Tier and the Pixel 10 SoC if can compete in that space that might be the strategy of changing pricing now etc. I hope they can keep prices so the entry 9 and 10 remain around $1000 price point so we have a non chinese option at upper mid tier price, aside from samsung which the a55 for $600, aside from CPU performance is a good buy.
Google changing its release date really does cram all these phone in around one another, perhaps thats a good thing.
I would be extremely surprised if Google bring the Pixel to NZ officially. We're too small.
PB now sell the Pixel 8, lets hope they offer the 9 and watch 3 as well.
