GeoffisPure:

Hi guys - a bit of a newby question.  I have an imported S7 that is region unlocked, but not jail broken.  Will I receive the oreo update through the normal software update screen?  Nothing showing as of yet.

Are you speaking about an iPhone or Samsung?

You speak about jail breaking which Is not Android related

If you have a Samsung then yes you will get the update when it's released for that csc version

If I was you install your carriers version of software using Odin

John

Sorry got my terminology wrong - I meant to say it's not rooted.

Not being overly technical,  I was wondering if I will receive an update to Oreo automatically given that my phone is not locked to a particular carrier?

Yes when Oreo is released for the carrier it was sold on

So far the only NZ carrier with Oreo released on s7/s7edge is NZC, 2degrees. TNZ and VNZ *should* follow in a matter of days at a guess.
I have a strong suspicion that this will be the last update that Samsung rolls out to the S7 family.

You'd be better off getting your current carrier image from Sammobile and install using Odin on your phone

Yup - definitely agree to that

Dont see Samsung being the over generous manufacturer who would release updates to a 3year old handset

One of the reasons I am leaning towards Android One for my next handset

Anyone experiencing the cell standby battery drain issue on Oreo? I have turned off the "mobile data always on" setting under developer options, reset network settings, wiped cache partition, soft reset etc. but still getting very high battery usage from cell standby.

I don't really want to do a factory reset, a lot of people on other forums have said this hasn't made a difference anyway. Is anyone else having this issue? Using a standard Galaxy S7 (not edge), on stock VNZ firmware.

Only way I have found to fix that issue was a complete hard reset

I've been running Oreo for well over a month now, and yes cell standby always features high on the list, however my battery levels at the end of the day aren't too different to what I had on the last ROM. Maybe the battery meter is broken.

I have an S7 Active, which is AT&T branded. I'm a Vodafone customer. How/where do I go to get the Oreo upgrade?
