sonic1989: I honestly don’t understand why jb hi fi or harvey normans don’t release the device here in NZ if they stock them in OZ given they are the same company 🤦🏼♂️ I give credit to pbtech for trying at least
I wonder if Kogan, who are a ONZ MVNO and also sell technical stuff, couldn't sell the phones with their plans? They could protect themselves by saying only guaranteed to work on the ONZ network (which they would have tested of course) and if you decide to move to a different network, that is your issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if the MVNOs have an agreement with their host network not to sell devices not approved by the host network. It could also be seen as anti-competitive selling phones that is guaranteed to only work with one network -- so might be legally safer for Kogan (or even One NZ and their MNVOs generally) to only sell phones that customers can switch to another carrier if they so choose (otherwise they risk Comcom looking into this as a competition/consumer issue). I am glad that today you can buy any phone from any carrier in NZ and if you choose to port away to another carrier, you can take your phone with you (as I have done with my 2degrees-sourced S21 which works 100% fine with all NZ carriers). I wouldn't want a return to the bad old days of when you bought a phone from Telecom it wouldn't work on Vodafone or vice-versa -- these days are left behind in the history books as examples of what not to do.
I think if Google was to start selling Pixels officially in NZ, they'd take the same approach as Apple, making sure the software on the phones is 100% compatible with ALL NZ mobile carriers for things such as VoWiFi, VoLTE and 5G. Status quo is that these feature only 100% work with some carriers and not others.
Thorak:How do you figure that one? My wifes 15 Pro Max is atrocious on the call quality front.

which carriers don't support these?
The only one I was aware of was One not supporting VoWifi - but pretty sure this is no longer the case.

Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.

They all support the pixels for all 3 features.
That post prompted me to check my P8 on Kogan and I found VoWiFi is now now an option. That was a nice surprise
Insanekiwi: 128gb or 256gb if you had to choose?
My 128GB Pixel 8 is only half full. I copy photos off to my computer and delete them from the phone, and use streaming for most things. Local storage not really a priority for me.
Those prices on Mightyape are surprisingly decent, wonder if they'll manage to source the fold too.

I was hoping to get the Pixel 9, I saw a review on 5g connection, significantly better according to the engineer reviewing it. I dont know why, they havnt changed SoCs so I wouldnt have thought the 5g Chip to be different, but am curious.
However its not a deal winner/breaker as I dont need 5g and the 7/8 has plenty of work arounds to run in 4g without these random shut downs and over heating "some" are complaining about.
So it goes back to, is the 7 good value at $660, given it has one more year of major updates left and 3 more security (was 3/2 support back then). $800 for the P7Pro.
The big thing you get with the 8 is the very long major update support and some extra ai stuff, but $940.
Ive considered other brands but photo quality is super important, which is hard at the mid tier price range.
But next year when they do change SoC's for the 10, would I get any money back on a Pixel 7 or P7Pro
