timmmay: I've upgraded the Pixel 8 to Android 15. Since then the switch app / square button doesn't work. Anyone else find the same?

Update - it worked after a reboot. Odd.

Reports are saying not to use the new private space feature as it may cause issues...

I still havnt bought a replacement phone, using an old beat up with no internet connection for being called or msgd.

I was hoping the 9 would have a bigger effect on 8 pricing by now.

My ideal pixel is an XL Pro, but the 8Pro at $1200 is out of reach.

The 7 Pro is still $800, but only one year left of Major Update then two of security. The one thing I dont like is curved edges, but these look like micro curved..... The 30x Zoom with ai looks impressive though. It has some ai features.

Uggggh $400 more for the 8Pro.

Last years 13T Pro looks great but doesnt have the Zoom I want with the Pixel Pro

I'm looking at buying the Pixel 8 from either Mighty Ape or PB Tech. Mighty Ape lists it as the "(Global/US Specs)" and states "Please Note: Product may arrive unsealed if the device needs to be manually unlocked to be used on New Zealand networks. This phone does support 5G, However, service carriers in NZ do not support the Pixel 8 to enable this 5G function". PB has the same model (UPC 840244706678) but doesn't carry the same disclaimer. I'm on Mighty Mobile (One). Will I be able to use 5G? This thread suggests that 5G does in fact work - is MA trying to protect themselves from some sort of perceived liability or do MA and PB actually have slightly different versions of the same model?

5G works.
Might be slightly different models - but all pixel 8s will work on 5G in NZ

Hi there, I was just wondering if you ended up getting one?

I was hoping for a black Friday price drop but looking at mightyape don't appear to be selling the 8 pro new, only refurb (which I'm now considering).

The only other thing that concerns me which I've only just noticed is that they all appear to be sold through a third party seller. Did everyone know this?
Anyone had issues with returns etc?

I just brought a renewed pixel 8 Pro from amazon for $867.16 delivered. Condition wise, once I wiped it with IPA you wouldn't be able to tell it from brand new. Unfortunately, the one they sent me was only 128GB instead of the expected 256GB.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CVYT2WYZ?th=1

The packaging it came with had the IMEI number that matches sim 1 IMEI of the phone. The packaging said it was 256GB so someone got confused / didn't check correctly. Unfortunately, Amazon is not giving me options to return it postage paid and say they will only refund $20 postage so looks like I'm stuck with the 128GB version after paying for the 256GB version. Having said that, $867 for a as new 128GB Pixel 8 pro still isn't bad, just not as good as a $867 256GB Pixel 8 Pro.

Thanks for the reply, but sorry that's unlucky, pretty annoying for you.
I've just bit the bullet and ordered the 8 pro 512gb refurb for $1390. Says it's prestine condition so hopefully it's a just a return for change of mind

Im helf out long enough using a borrowed phone.

So Im looking at Pixel 8 Pro. Its been pretty impressive for a while the "Pixel Pro" model.

The 8 clearly gives a solid warranty base and in two years, once the Pixel 10 has been out a while on its own SoC/CPU, i will sell up the 8 of the 10 improves performance and cuts out issues like the 5G hardware, happy to run on 4g for a while

Slightly OT but relevant to Amazon returns. I have a set of wireless microphones I want to return. They are quite small designed for your lapel.   Amazon said they would accept them and contribute $20 to shipping which should be adequate. They also provided all the retujrn labels including a dangerous goods label because of the Lithium batteries. But I have no clear idea how to send them back? Can I just create a label and buy the postage from NZ Post, apply all the labels and give it to my local PO and hope it goes through or do I have to use a courier where the cost of the courier would exceed the cost of the microphones?

When I sent my phone back to Australia for a warranty claim, I just went to the post office and had to fill in some documents and pay the money.
Minimum charge to send something with a battery in it was $80 I think.

I had to return a kindle once. The only option NZPost gave me was international priority courier which was around $100. Lithium batteries are pretty expensive to ship from NZ.

Included with the return shipping labels Amazon also included this label

I wonder what would happen if I bought all the postage online (which I do frequently), attach the NZ Post label showing postage paid, goods declaration, this label and just gave it to the counter staff? I guess the worse that would happen is when it got to the international parcel section and they checked the dimensions of the package versus the postage I had paid, so they bill my credit card the right amout,  they might send it back to me?

I see the Pixel 8 Pro is now available for $1099. I think this is my trigger price now.

Its not perfect, the 5g overheating/shutdown issues being of concern to some, but 4G is plenty quick enough for when I rarely am out of fibre wifi spots. From my understanding its due to the SoC, the 9 has improved the issue, but for me I think its a good buy. I can then wait for the P10 release. Most likely I will wait for the 11 release for the 10 to fall into my price range.

Is there a place for the Pixel 8 Pro in 2025?

Probably. And the 7 and the 6 (considering they still get support)

I just bought a 7a from Japan to see what it's all about so I can either shut up about how much slag I give it (unfairly and fairly), possibly enjoy it enough to sell my OP12 or sell the 7A itself.

Guess we'll see.

It's not bad at that price. It also gets hot fast charging, I turn mine to airplane mode to fast charge which helps a lot.

Thats via the phone warehouse and only obsidian colour.

MightyApe have refurbished as in "excellent" condition with 12 month warranty for the same price as well.

Not sure about prices imported directly, possibly also a cheap route.
