I tried to use an overseas version with ODIN based on this:-

http://androidromupdate.com/2012/08/01/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-gt-p7500-upgrade-to-official-android-ics-4-0-4-ice-cream-sandwich-firmware-p7500xxlq8/#comments

But could not get my 10.1 to talk to ODIN in download mode :-)

Might be getting a bit reckless but am heading off overseas in a weeks time for 5 weeks and wanted to have it upgraded. Now wondering if I have a local SIM card in US or Italy whether I will get an OTA upgrade there, or are the upgrades only via Kies?  Anybody know? I am floundering around a bit....

The update is tied to the original device region not the carrier. (it's a firmware thing)
If you bought yours from say the UK then you will have the update available when it's released to the UK firmware versions.  Even if you're sitting in your rocker in East Dipton connecting via your neighbours open wifi connection that's routed from an XT broadband stick.

Soo... if you bought it from Hong-Kong or Dubai you'll have to wait for the update to be released for those versions.

oxnsox:
networkn: I have ICS on my 7.7 and it's so much better, I am frustrated waiting for my 8.9 to get it!

I know it's out for the 7.7 in Europe so I'm supposing yours is 'european'? or have they begun rolling it into other areas. (haven't seen it on my 7.7 yet)

I am not sure of mine, was purchased through mobicity from memory, however I still don't have the update on my 8.9 device and I have to say I am feeling frustrated. Considering Jellybean is out on devices too

I checked for updates yesterday on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and was prompted to download the ICS update. My device is really US sourced though, because it was purchased via a FirstIn special. Update went without a hitch.

I got excited for a second there, the process really does seem to be dragging on now..........

I'm guessing since it's taken an age to get ICS, there is no chance of getting jB?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yeah sorry to get your hopes up. But at least it shows it is being deployed, even if not yet to yours Cry

So much for the press release saying "august".

I never understood why Samsung were so terrible at deploying updates

I would be happy if I could get Kies to actually recognise my Galaxy Tab. It seems there's a whole heap of other people who just can't get their 10.1s to connect and I guess that means no update for me :(

I was having the same problem, after some research I did a factory reset and all worked. Next day after reinstalling all my apps kies wouldn't recognize it again. Turned out to be internet banking app interfering with kies! Could your troubles be similar? Once the update gets released you won't need kies anyway though if all goes to plan.

Ok it is the last day of the month of August, as the long awaited ICS upgrade was meant to be deliveried this July/August.

We know ICS is ready, and already being deployed else where in the world. So what is the hold up?

Last day today, can't see it coming out. Looks like we will be waiting (another Samsung random date of hope) till how long when this time?

If Kies won't recognize your tablet, install an older version of kies. Whenever I update to the latest it just doesn't work.

Samsung haven't shed much on it either

No joy unfortunately. Plus, and this might have changed, I thought the updates were delivered with the newer versions of KIES? As in you couldn't get any non-OTA updates without the latest version?
