Bought one on Friday as a birthday present to myself (only way to get something you actually want). Walked into a NL branch in Papanui (Chch) but they only had a display model. The guy directed me to North wood where they had 5 in stock.
My first tablet and so far I'm liking it. Never wanted an iPad due to size/weight - the Nexus 7 seems ideal.
Runs very quick although not convinced about Chrome, may revert to Opera.

Did anyone buy there's off the play store and if so is the charger 110v-240v?  Just wondering if I need to use a step down or just a converter plug.

Thanks.

Mines from NZ.

The charger came in two pieces, the actual charger and the local plug. The charger states 100v-240v so hopefully the play store is the same

Thanks. The play store says it's multi voltage and with what you got in NZ I imagine all I'll need is an adaptor plug.

I thought I would use my free Sunday afternoon to see if I could find to play with. Alas, no. NL Tory Street were sold out with no display  model, NL Porirua the same and HN Porirua none also.

Oh well, had nothing else to do.

athor: Ok I just managed to get the $25 Play Store credit, on my Nexus 7 from NL.

Heres how to do it:

You need a credit card in Google wallet, with a US address. I just used my kiwibank visa debit card with a fake US address (added this through the google wallet website).

I then did a factory reset on the tablet, and when it asked me to connect to wifi, I connected to my home wifi, and set a US proxy ,found from here: http://spys.ru/en/ I tried a few but the one that seemed to work had HIA under the Anonymity* column.

I then clicked through the wizard and had a new page saying I got $25 credit. Also using the US proxy means you will get the Play Books, Magazines and Movies app on the tablet (although once you turn off the proxy those won't work anymore).

Also, I think it may be possible to get it without doing a factory reset. In one of my attempts I had done a factory reset, but hadn't had the US address credit card added. I noticed when I went to the play store and attempted to purchase something, under the payment options there was a new option that said "Add a credit card to get $25". I tried to add some fake credit cards at that step, but they wouldn't work. I'm not sure if that option will show up once you are connected to a US proxy or not.

I would be interested if you were able to anctually use the credit and buy something?

I rented a movie on Google Play using a VPN and also a US credit card. But even on the VPN I can't watch it - error about not being available in your country. I didnt' do extensive testing but it seems Google is checking something else also?  I couldn't do further testing sincce my VPN (Overplay) sub had expired and I was not about to renew it.

Can confirm this works.
I now have my Transformer movie, $25 dollars, access to the US store and even $10 credit for google wallet
I also have access to books/mags and the movie player (without rooting).

So how you do it.
First reset your tablet, when it comes to setting up again use a US proxy.
Almost make sure you setup your credit card with a US address (i Used comGateway) You don't need a US credit card for this.

Once this is all done setup your tablet again, it will have wallet, play, movies, reader already installed when finish setting up.
Open google walllet and request a google pre pay card to get your $10 as well :)

I have now signed up to a cheap US VPN service which also lets me stream movies from the store :) (watching transformers now) :)

Can you tell us which VPN service you used?

I used a US proxy and vpn to do this. Play movies and books installed.

BUT

As soon as I connected the tab to plain wifi the play apps disappeared before my eyes.

I've tried to manually install them again from apk's on the sd card nothing shows up. I'm not sure how they have locked it down

Can anyone recommend a screenshot app that does not require a rooted phone? I found plenty of sites saying that to take screenshots on Jelly Bean all you need to do is hold down the power and volume buttons simultaneously, but this proving beyond me. I've tried using two fingers from one hand, and one finger from hand, but I can't seem to get them down simultaneously - I either see the volume slider moving or the power off dialog come up.

Just hold power button & down volume. Works fine

I can't get that to work. The volume slider goes down to zero, and if I keep holding them both down, the tablet restarts. Ten minutes of trying without success so far.

Are you holding both at the same time? I'm struggling to get it to fail.

Power + volume down at the same time, hold for 1-2 seconds.

If this doesn't work then your tablet is broken!

No, my tablet's not broken - my hands are. As I explicitly stated at length in my initial post, I understand how the process works in Jelly Bean, but am having trouble holding the two buttons down at the same time. I have impaired motor skills, and the process obviously requires an exact synchronicity that is very, very difficult for me. That's why I asked about an app, hoping there might be one that was easier to use for me given my physical limitations.
