Rumour is it that NTT Docomo in Japan might be getting an exclusive premium version of the Z5 Compact with 1080p screen and 4GB RAM
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Report-Sony-Xperia-Z5-Compact-Premium-with-1080p-screen-is-coming-to-NTT-DoCoMo_id73443
If true, I hope Sony quickly realises this device should be released internationally.

Nothing pisses me off more in the cellphone world than exclusive country releases. Mind numbingly stupid business practice.

Good to see! Also, good on Sony for testing the waters and adjusting to consumer feedback.

This only brings UK pricing more into line with what the rest of Europe already has

Europe pricing:
Z5 Compact €549 (~$950NZ)
Z5 standard €699 (~$1200NZ)
Z5 Premium €799 (~$1400NZ)

previous UK pricing:
Z5 Compact £549 (~$1300NZ)
Z5 standard £599 (~$1400NZ)
Z5 Premium £699 (~$1700NZ)

new UK pricing:
Z5 Compact £429 (~$1000NZ)
Z5 standard £549 (~$1300NZ)
Z5 Premium £629 (~$1500NZ)

Other news: Z5 Premium might be using dual heatpipes and thermal paste (like what is seen in PCs) to keep heat in check. If true this would be a first for a smartphone.

Arstechnica said about the 810: "In short, chips throttle, but the 810 throttles more than most, and it's severe enough that the 810 is actually slower than the 801 or 805 in some CPU-bound tasks"
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/04/in-depth-with-the-snapdragon-810s-heat-problems/

Androidauthority also confirmed severe throttling, and even tested the newest v2.1 and still found throttling issues due to handsets not being able to dissipate heat adequately
http://www.androidauthority.com/qualcomm-snapdragon-810-v2-617956/

So if Sony are using heatpipes and thermal paste, perhaps this is a viable solution to get the 810 to perform without throttling. I wonder if this same tech is being used in all the Z5 range of devices. Hopefully we will start seeing some full teardowns soon.

no wireless charging, they really need to make this standard, i wont buy a phone without this.  so much easier just sliding/dropping a phone into a stand with wireless charging without having to connect/disconnect the usb power all the time.  guess its the next nexus 5 for me then.

Looks like Z5 Premium only displays 4K in native video and photo apps, everything else is rendered in 1080p

"[The] Android system runs with 1080p, only the pre-installed video and photo apps could drive the display with 4K. Apparently proprietary drivers are used [where] the "normal" app developers do not have access. So even with the screen capture or other apps [that] see the resolution, it will only show FullHD."
