I still have voice commands and voice recognition so will now wait patiently for the roll-out to our language.

 

 

You can change F/C in the settings - does it affect the widget?

This was one of the first things I noticed, but I found a setting to override this so all seems good. To change do the following:

 

 

 

Open google assistant -> click the settings icon to the top right corner and select settings -> scroll down to personal info -> Preferences -> Celsius :)

Hey, got it going on my S5. Interesting. 

 

One problem, though, I now have to speak "OK Google" very loudly. It was fine before so not sure what has happened or how to fix it.

when you first set it up it should go through a bit of voice training (at least it did on my Nexus 5).
Perhaps that might address the issue

at the moment it doesnt seem to support identifying songs, which is odd because the old google now/"ok google" could do it

Yes, it did go through the training regime but it had trouble 'hearing' me with that as well.

I use Australian English on my Pixel XL, Assistant understands me fine with no date/locale issues.

Australian English is supported as far as I understand. The Pixel is retailed there.

 

Back when I had my 6P with a custom ROM borrowing the Pixel features, I used AU English then too. Worked fine.  Can't see why it wouldn't work with non Pixel phones now too that the roll out has begun, give it a shot?

From my experience English AU has been the worst at voice recognition unfortunately.
