restecp: Nope he asked about model numbers being different... they aren't.

Agreed the firmware is different but other than being fine tuned for the specific carrier there is no difference other than what's stated in my original post.

The firmware is quite different between models and are network specific

I'd always recommend buying the one for the carrier you have.

If you want unbranded the I'm currently using a 2D S9+ and I was able to remove the app.

I usually buy 2D or Vida variants as I hate the boot animation for the Spark variant

Will the S9 still have the Spark boot animation? I don't know if the S8 had it because I flashed the XNZ carrier free firmware before I booted it the first time. I'm pretty sure I remember somebody on here within the last year saying they had ditched the animation and the abomination that was the Y!Tworld icon.

I'm thinking of buying one from Aussie since it's cheaper and you can claim GST back.

Any gotchas I should be aware about?

I'm going to wait until I see how this new camera lens copes with drop tests; mind you I had a play with an S8 recently and it's build quality is next-level compared to my S7 Edge.

I think warranty is international and provided by Samsung so shouldn't matter?

No such thing I'm afraid all warranties are local.

Tragically this time around it looks like all the NZ models now fall within the OXM multi CSC firmware. While this is great news for faster updates, it means it won't be possible 'debrand' by switching from Spark (TNZ) for instance to XNZ or XEU firmware like you could with the S7 and S8 etc.
