I'm keen to get the new model but only if they have fixed the REALLY annoying problem where when you cross your arms and the watch ends up under your opposing forearm - the forearm presses against the watch face and suddenly you're on the mode of changing watch faces. Any movement of your arms and your watch face is changed. Happens a lot mostly at night for some reason. Sort it out Samsung, should be a simple fix i would have thought. Other than that, great watch.

Can any of the people with the Galaxy watch comment on if their step counts are working?  Relevant thread here:

https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Wearable-Tech/New-Galaxy-Watch-does-not-count-steps/td-p/384843

As far as I can work out:

It's a software problem that also exists in the Gear S3 and Gear Sport but only after they upgraded to Tizen 3

Heart rate tracking is also a bit iffy but I care less about that and it's always been a problem on Samsung Watches.

The Galaxy Watch announcement boasted about "new and improved health algorithms" so I suspect it's related to that.

Rebooting fixes it for a while and turning off some of the automatic activity detection can help but doesn't always.

What I would like to know is is this issue effecting everyone but only some have noticed or is it only effecting some people.  To tell if you have this problem you should compare the step count from your phone vs the watch in samsung health by clicking on "all steps" and bringing up the dialog in the screenshot below:

I am still in a big dilemma of what to get.  I can get the refurbed gear sport for $240 off amazon and the 46mm watch off the samsung web site for $489.  I think thats a good deal, I prefer the form factor but we have been waiting forever for smart watches with better battery life so I am happy to spend the money on the Galaxy Watch.  At least I was until the bad reviews about this issue start rolling in.

$500 is a lot to spend on a new watch just to find one of the key features doesn't work.  I think it will be fixed with a software update but then there is no guarantee and those Gear Sport owners are still waiting...

Keen for feedback if anyone has any.

From my use watch steps always seemed ok once in a while glitch would come up with 100 km but otherwise always seems ok . Phone steps I found never reliable as always so different varied between 5 km and 20 km and average 10 km.When first got watch compared steps on striiv , cheap chinese smartwatch , and samsung neo always similar but phone totally different.

This forum has a lot info about watch and shealth and interesting comparing to garmin watch

Has there been any word on the LTE model coming into NZ yet? Also on a side note, why only Rose Gold for the 42mm LTE model?

42mm comes in black as well as rose gold.  No word of an official release of the LTE version.  The gear S3 only got released by Spark which is annoying if you are with one of the other telcos.

how does the LTE version work? wil you have separate number?

Update on galaxy watch 42mm after 1 months usage. I've been getting average battery usage of about 2 and half days, then with no changes or updates last 3 times getting 3 and half days battery usage, so perhaps watch learns usage after period time. Settings for AOD and NFC off, and wifi auto on, heart rate frequent every 10 mins and gps turned on. Sleep tracker tried a couple of weeks and absolutely useless, first time was watching tv 10 to 12pm and told me i was asleep motionless. 2nd time slept from 11.30 pm to 6.15 am yet told me i slept from 12.30 to 1.30 am, then 6.45 am to 7.30 am and third time slept from 9.45 am to 12.15 pm just couldn't understand so never used again and also don't like sleeping with watch on. So overall very happy with watch and battery usage great now hope this keeps up.

Yes, reviews said separate sim so separate number and also separate cell phone plan if you can't share data from your main sim like 2 degrees lets you.  When it's connected to your phone it gets all the calls and texts fowarded from that.  I assume if you are on mobile data (via the sim) this still works but I think if you send a text from the watch when it's not connected to the phone via bluetooth it comes from the watches phone number.

LTE also causes massive battery drain.  It's not that useful imho, about the only use cases is going jogging without your phone.

It's the deal of the week.  If you also sign up for the Noel's spam you get a $10 off voucher. The 46mm is discounted $109 + the $10 voucher if you are a cheap bugger like me.

Thanks for the info.  Can you tell us if your step counting is accurate?  If you go into samsung health and switch between the steps recorded by the phone and the watch is the watch steps higher than the phone?  It should be because you always wear the watch and sometimes put your phone down.  Watch steps should never be lower if you wear the watch all day.

I think my Galaxy Watch 46mm has failed.

Bought 12 Sept.

23 Dec., After a week on power saver mode and the battery at 20% I found the watch would not re-power after being on my Duo charger for a couple of hours.

Tried several times using the Duo Wireless charger and the Wireless charger and pressing the power button (as a recommended recovery option).

Got partial power up results, but the watch quickly died.

25 Dec., Tried again today. No charging. No power up.

Looks like I will have to contact Samsung NZ in the New Year for some sort of return process.

I've got Note 8 but should be same, Galaxy Wearable app then settings then watch connection and turn off connection notification and hopefully this should work. It used to drive me crazy all the time buzzing and notifying me each time.
