dryburn:

Mi Mix 3 looks impressive!

Yeah sure does. Just the pricing on this one is out of the budget Mi pricing like the A2, but yeah its a multimedia dream.

After 30 mins research the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 looks to be the best value for money Xiaomi phone at present. It has he same specs and features as the Mi 8 Pro but is only $528 and not $980 like the Mi 8.

The screen on the poco is not AMOLED but resolution is the same at 1080 x 2246 pixels, also I like the fact it still has earphone jack.

I compared 3 Xiaomi phones being budget Note 6 Pro ($280), Mid Pocophone ($528) and Premium Mi 8 Pro ($980)

Here are the results..

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone3=9336&idPhone2=9333&idPhone1=9293#diff-global,*,*

Now just to wait a week for the store to open and hopefully sell the Pocophone for less than $528 NZD otherwise I'll be ordering from GB and waiting the 2-3 weeks for delivery.

You probably should be saying less than $659, because that's what the Pocophone will be after customs fees, plus whatever value you put on a local supplier who complies with the CGA etc.

Is amazing the upgrade of the imx362 in the Mi A2 to the Pocophone which is imx363, same Res, but they have upped the size of the pixels to what some of the class leading phones now use, 1.4µm.

The mi mix 3 uses the same sensor and it has been rated by dxomark at 103 which is near the top (so pcophone SHOULD score similar), but not quite a huawei mate p20 pro. but heck huawei are using a quad lens leica camera.

pocofone, a2 and p20pro

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9293&idPhone2=9140&idPhone3=9343

Id look at the pocofone from one of our parralel importers or imported, $300euro is the same price tag as the Nok 7.1. this looks to be a clear winner internally. Shoud be able to get it landed for $500-550...... Will be interesting to see if the Mi store sells it.

Understand it's not a big deal to alot of people but do be aware the Pocophone doesn't support LTE band 28 (700Mhz).

So as per the other thread, there will be a limited number of Pocophone F1 available as an opening special of $479. Given their other specials which list "normal" prices are both $100 off (scooter for $599 instead of $699, and Note 5 for $299 instead of $399), it's highly possible that their non-special list price for the F1 will be $579.

The opening special list is:

Mi Portable Folding Electric Scooter (White Colour) $599 – 70 Available Saturday, 70 Available Sunday
Mi Portable Folding Electric Scooter (Black Colour) $599 – 30 Available Saturday, 30 Available Sunday
RedMi Note 5 64GB Smartphone (Black Colour) $299 – 60 Available Saturday, 60 Available Sunday
RedMi Note 5 64GB Smartphone (Blue Colour) $299 – 40 Available Saturday, 40 Available Sunday
Mi Home Smart APP Robot Vacuum Cleaner $399 – 60 Available Saturday, 60 Available Sunday
Mi Smart Home Scale $39 – 60 Available Saturday, 60 Available Sunday
Mi Band 3 Fitness Tracker $29 – 100 Available Saturday, 100 Available Sunday
Mi Sports Bluetooth Earphones – $29 – 100 Available Saturday, 100 Available Sunday
Mi Pocophone F1 64GB (Graphite Black Colour) – $479 – 30 Available Saturday, 30 Available Sunday
Mi Pocophone F1 64GB (Steel Blue Colour) – $479 – 20 Available Saturday, 20 Available Sunday
Mi Power Bank 5000MaH (Silver Colour) – $5 – 200 Available Saturday, 200 Available Sunday
Mi Home Security Camera – $39 – 60 Available Saturday, 60 Available Sunday
Mijia Car Dash Camera – $59 – 60 Available Saturday, 60 Available Sunday

Still hoping they will be stocking the B28 variant of the Note 5/6, but this list gives you an idea of the range they will be stocking.

Anyone have any idea if these 'sale' prices will be in-store only or also available on their website?

When I queried them via their FB page the indication was both store and website would open/go live from 10am on Saturday, but I'm not sure as to pricing.

Wow, there's some good pricing there.

I suppose it will be crazy, but almost worth heading in there on the weekend. Dash cam and power bank are pretty tempting, as is the fitness tracker.

For a NZ rrp store that would sound about right. The parralel importers will be a bit cheaper. Importing right now isnt an option as AliExp cheapest is $450ish, so wont avoid tax, maybe mid cycle it will be more like $350ish.

So for me that sounds like a heck of a deal from a bricks and mortar shop. I always said asian market phones will be what lowers the over priced flagships, I think an actual store might prove to be the killer blow as people can touch them and they have warranty etc etc. Huawei open a store please lol.

Everytime I read its name though I cant take it seriously as a phone as I think of that game haha. Im sure in hand that would change.

Hey are those scooters any good? I see people on those hire Juice scooters for 30c a minute I think it is, they are everywhere when I visited family in Auck. Ill do some googling but if anyone knows anything about these leccy scooters any input appreciated. Id basically like to know if they are good for a 10-20 min commute? And if you have to get off to go uphills etc. I know I would 6ft5 110kg I might look a bit silly on one, but the Mrs rides to her satellite offices, but she mentioned these, 10 min bike ride wouldnt impact her metabolism much vs the fun on a scooter. :-). i was till skateboarding at 35 and still have a longboard, i think people dont give a flap how they look. what surprises me is that they are allowed on footpaths and no helmet.....

That's a very good deal compared to what's on the market here at the moment -- especially now that the latest OnePlus phone from PBTech has a MSRP of ~$1100. I was recommending a Nokia 7 Plus at around the ~$500 price range a few weeks ago.

Yes, my wife and I have one each. I use mine mainly to go to jobs in the Christchurch CBD (with no parking hassles).

I am 63 years old, 102kg and 6' 4" and it handles my bulk and some extra weight in my bag.

For sure, how can it not dent prices once Xiaomi gets established here. Im looking at $1300 for a p20 pro, but I really need a great camera, but the pocophone has same sensor as mi mix 3 which scored 103 on DXO, the quad lens leica camera on the p20 pro 109, so its not that far off, I did read reviews as well. Clearly the p20 offers more with zooms and angles etc. but if all you want is a quality snapper the pocomonphone SHOULD be PLENTY pleasing.

The 7.1 still fits some situations though, like work roll outs due to support and it looks professional and is easy to use.

But I dunno the F1 is direct competition to flagships. at up to 1/3 the price.

Thanks Rob. What about hills? Not that CCH has many. And how long will a charge last you in time?

Appreciated.

Edit: wow 18.6 miles. Man anyone living in the 10km zonings of cities could commute with one of these and save she loads on gas and parking/train/bus
